Lately for the past four months about a week before my period I've noticed really bad highs and lows in my mood. when I get my period my mood levels off. I work 4o hrs a week, I eat right, get two hours of exercise five days a week. I get support from my parents normally I'm happy. Also latley I had been under some stress. I lost a friend (guy) that I had been seeing since may. He couldn't deal with the constant ups and downs. I was treated for anxiety when I was pregnat doctor perscribed Zoloft to help. But these up and downs are getting rediculious. any suggestions.

What can I do next?

G., I would really recommend the book Fertility, Cycles and Nutrition by Marilyn Shannon. She recommends a vitamin that was specially formulated for PMS that really leveled me out. It was amazing. She also recommends other nutrition based things you can do to manage mood swings and other symptoms of PMS. You can get it at http://www.ccli.org/
Good luck!

My GYN told me that I needed at least 1000 mgs of calcium in my daily diet when I told her I was experiencing the same thing you described. It has really helped. There is also a progesterone cream that you can buy at the vitamin store for pms and other supplements that may help. You can ask the salesperson in the store for help.

You didn't mention whether you are using birth control pills or not. I have tried various forms of BCPs over the years and have had some that threw my hormones into a complete tizzy with ups and downs. If you *are* using BCPs, you might want to mention your ups and downs to your doc. Perhaps another pill or another form of birth control would help.

I experienced the same thing after my second child. I am 32 and was on BC since I was 18. The only time I was off was for the year of TTC #1 and the 6 mo before conceiving 2nd (and of course during the pregnancies). After our 2nd, we decided on the Mirena IUD. I started to notice crazy mood swings. The hormones in the IUD are much milder and do not run through the blood stream. The BC pill actually helped level out my hormones so to combat the issue, I am on a low dose antidepressant. That seems to help a lot!! Best of luck.
