I have had swelling in hand and feet since i was around 28 wks pregnant. I am now 34 and i have had protein in my urine test but not very much so the dr showed no concern...now i show around plus 2 protein and they are sending me for a 24 hr urine test...they put me on bed rest..i have extreme swelling in extremities now. I also go for my second 3 hr glucola test in the morn. But my concern is..is plus 2 protein in the urine high?? Does it sound like i developed preeclampsia?

What can I do next?

I had a little protein in my urine too, (not sure what +2 is) and the nurse told me that dehydration can cause that. I drank waay too much soda and not enough water. My next visit I made sure to drink lots of water and my urine test had no protein in it. I started to swell really bad around 32 weeks, but my BP was perfect.

It sounds exactly the same as I had during my first pregnancy. I did have preeclampsia. My b/p was up and I was very sick. Please follow the drs. instruction! They ended up inducing my labor and I felt better for a few hours after birth then my b/p skyrocketed. All I remember is that I was put in a separate room with a nurse all the time. My parents were there and refused to leave and I could not hold my baby or nurse him because of the medicine they gave me. I remember crying because I wanted to hold my baby. The nurse kept saying no and finally my mom crawled into bed with me and put the baby between us so I could hold him. I did not realize until months later that my b/p so high they thought I would not live. That is why I had special treatment and why my parents would not leave my side. Please, please do as the dr. feels is right. Every case is different but this is nothing to play around with. I will pray for you, the baby and your family in my prayers. I do not want to scare you but I do hope you will heed my warnings so you can deliver a healthy child and to good health. May God Bless you during this time.

I swelled early on also. b/p was always 100-110/60-70. At 36 weeks I had protein in my urine and b/p 140/80. I did the 24 hour urine, which this is what determines preeclampsia. That was a Monday and Wednesday morning I went in to get the results, my 24 hour urine came back 302. Anything over 300 is preeclampsia, along with elevated b/p. That day my pressure had went up to 150/88. I was going to be induced that day, but my daughter was breech...c-section was performed and we both did wonderfully! Best of luck!!!

I had the same thing... at 32 weeks, I was swelling horribly, my blood pressure was elevated and they put me on bed rest. At 35 weeks, they ordered the 24 hour urine test that turned into a 3-night hospital stay where I had to practically beg to go home. The following week, they took my son via emergency c-section because my blood pressure had skyrocketed (despite the bed rest) and my liver count had soared. You may have preeclampsia, too; that's why they're doing the test. Hang in there and follow their instructions. In hindsight, I probably didn't stay horizontal on my left side as much as I should have. But the bottom line is that my son and I survived without any complications. Best of luck!

The reaction of the OB (24-hr urine test and bed rest) is pretty consistent with "treatment" for preeclampsia. Please take the advice seriously and get on bed rest. If you feel any sort of "weird" change or odd pains, call the OB right away.

By no means do I want to scare you, but I wish someone had told me this: ask your OB if you should have a blood draw to look at your liver enzymes and platelet counts. These symptoms are also consistent with HELLP Syndrome (although HELLP Syndrome is much, much more rare than preeclampsia).

My very best wishes to you!!
