Pleather

We bought a pleather couch a few years ago. I went as far as buying the 'warranty' for it. Well it is to the point where the pleather is cracking, blistering, and peeling off (one cushion is missing a huge piece). Unfortunately the warranty covers stains, rips, and punctures but not 'wear'. So barring intentionally puncturing it (which probably wouldn't be a solution either) what can I do to make it look more presentable?

I'd love to throw a slipcover over it but it is a dual recliner on the ends and I don't think they make slipcovers for those.

I'm open to any suggestions..

What can I do next?

We had a dark brown pleather ottoman until a couple years ago. It was very handsome. Then, I had new baby and a new kitten. They did unspeakable things to it.

Here's what I did about the holes. I bought a really pretty turquoise, chocolate, an ivory floral oilcloth and made cut outs that covered the holes and rips. Then I glued these down using a pleather/leather bonding agent from the auto supply store.

The effect was actually really attractive and I got a lot of complements on it. Unfortunately, it could not survive being used as a trampoline by my younger daughter.

They do make slipcovers for recliners...It might be that you could get 2 of them...and see if that works!

The cost of re- upholstery (paying someone) is high. I would only recommend that route IF it is a very sturdy piece of furniture...or has sentimental value.

Upholstery is not very hard really...but a recliner would not be a piece I would recommend as a first try.

Often, it is just cheaper to get a new piece...

Sorry I am not more help!

Pleather is plastic pretending to be leather, right? I know handbags are made of it.

Do you know anyone who sews? Do you know anyone who *upholsters*? In fact, maybe if you called an upholstery shop and picked the brains of the people there, you might get some good answers.

Will one of the "cracks" become a "rip"? Hmmmmm :)

Otherwise, I couldn't stand it. I'd probably donate it and check out Craigslist for another. Even if you were to slip cover it, it's slippery, so I'm not sure if it would even stay on well.
