I think the Graco Metro Light is the best deal out there in terms of a stroller system that is great for the car. The stroller is so light and by far is the best value.
Hi Moms--my sister is newly preggers and I am helping her w/ her registry. I love my Graco, but I can only give her my thoughts and let her make her own decision. She likes the CHico brand and Peg Perego. Do you moms like these brands or any other types? She would be buying a stroller and/or car seat system for a newborn. All of your thoughts would be appreciated!

I like the Snap N Go for a car-seat stroller - it's really light and simple to use plus it's cheap (new: $50). Once the baby grows out of that go for a light-weight high-end umbrella stroller. We have an Inglesina Swift that we love for in/out of the car and for travel. MacLarans also seem good.
We have a Zooper Boogie that we use for long walks around the neighborhood, but it's not lightweight or small. It is great esp. for newborns - full recline, you can set it so your baby faces you or faces the world, etc. Easy to push, locking front wheel, pneumatic tires. We also strongly considered Valco Runabout and Bumbleride Rocket.
Honestly, I would stay away from the travel systems only because I think you can get better strollers than the ones that come with the carseats. Just use the snap n go for the carseat.
Baby Bargains is a great book with an informative website for ideas and comparisons on so many things so be sure to have your sister check that out. I loved my graco snug carseat with the Combi stroller. With 2 under 2, we then went with the Combi Twin since we loved the single stroller so much. It is lightweight, folds easily and compactly, easy to steer with one hand, reclines fully for when the baby/toddler do fall asleep in there. I agree with the other poster about the cup holder, but you can buy one for a few dollars that attaches.
I have the Graco DuoGlider and have loved it. I had the travel system, so it worked with the matching carseat. I like the stadium seating so it's easier to keep an eye on both of them because one is up higher than the other. Now my daughter is 3 1/2 and my son is 2 and we still use it ocassionaly for long walks. It has totaly held up, it's easy to push and get in an out of doors and easy to fold and unfold. It was used soooo much. I've heard how some brands don't hold up that well and was happy that I didn't have that problem.
I love our Graco travel system with 2 bases so we never have to reinstall anything. I am so not looking forward to buying his next car seat and having to take him out all the time. The stroller is really nice too, I keep it in my car all the time. I also bought a smaller umbrella type stroller with basket for traveling or quick trips. I love Graco!
I have the Peg Perego system. There are a couple of there strollers you can choose from that the car seat fits into. We did the Aria one. Which is lighter weight, nice for use after they are out of the car seat, easy to fold up and has a decent amount of space under the stroller to put items in. My only complaint is that the cup holder doesn't hold up well. Mine has broke twice and I don't have one anymore. However, it's a nice item to have but not a neccesasity.
I have a Graco Quattro Tour travel system, and hindsight being 20-20, I wish I had bought a separate car seat and stroller. It's been super convenient for us, but there are definitely some downsides to it.
#1 - I wish I would have spent the money on a convertible car seat from the get-go. We are only going to have one baby, and now we are faced with having to buy another car seat.
#2 - The Quattro Tour stroller is HEAVY. While I wouldn't say it is unmanageable, I can't imagine what life would be like if I still lived in my 3rd floor walk-up condo (we now live in a single-family, so it stays in the garage)! I only have to put it in and out of my trunk.
#3 - And speaking of trunk...I have a full-size luxury sedan and the beast of a stroller eats up nearly all the trunk space. I can't imagine trying to jam it into a compact car!
Like I said, the travel system does have it's conveniences and advantages, but after only 8 months of use we are about to outgrow the carseat and are looking for a different (lighter, more compact) stroller. I wish I didn't have to buy both products *again*.
I second the kudos for the Snap N Go. When we were registering my husband made a very valid point. He asked me to try and pick up the different strollers since I would have to pick them up and put them in the car, possibly while also holding a baby. The travel systems are heavy and not very easy to work with! The Snap N Go is extremely simple and very light. We recently took it apple picking with us and used it to haul the apples around as well.
My daughter is now in a Combi Cosmo and we like it as well. When we first started using it she was a little small for it but she liked the freedom of not being harnessed into the car seat to go for a stroller ride. It is also light weight and easy to use. There are a few downsides to this stroller though. It doesn't have a tray although I am not sure how much I would use a tray, and not having it is why it is so easy to fold up. Also the only cup holder is down by my daughter, so I have to carry my drink. Finally, if you are looking for a stroller with a big basket, this is not the one for you. I can basically fit my purse and a couple of toys in the basket under the stroller.
Good luck!
I just LOVE me Bumbleride and Maclaren strollers. I started out with the Peg, but had noting but problems with it. Good Luck
I never had a travel system - just a Graco Snugride car seat with the Snugrider/Snap-n-Go stroller frame and I think it's the best. I feel like travel systems are so bulky, and since I had a c-section I really appreciated the lightweight frame to set up rather than a huge stroller. When my son was older we switched to a Maclaren stroller, which is also great and lightweight. Of course any stroller would do.
I also recommend the Baby Bargains book. Baby gear is so overwhelming and it really helps to narrow your choices down to best value/best quality.
Congrats to your sister and good luck!
I have a Peg Perego (triple stroller) and am very happy with it. It's sturdy and easy to handle. Regardless of which brand, my recommendation would be to get a travel system so that her infant car seat can fit into the stroller. That's so important in the beginning because you don't want to have to get your little one in and out all the time.
I have a Chicco and I LOVE it. For the first 5 months we used the carseat in the stroller as a travel system. THen when he could hold is head up well enough and got antsy, we put him in the stroller alone. I love that when he's asleep in the car and I'm running errands I can just snap him into the stroller and he won't wake up and mess up his nap.
The stroller folds up completely with one hand, and is light enough that if one had to haul it up a couple of flights of stairs it wouldn't be a hardship. It fits into the trunk of our Honda Civic and we can still have other stuff in there. It stands up on its own when folded, so that's just one more feature that makes it super easy. I can steer it one-handed with ease. It's great on city sidewalks, unlike many of the other strollers. It corners on a dime, unlike most travel-system strollers. I made the perfect choice for our lifestyle. If your sister is going to be walking outside a lot, she can't go wrong with the Chicco.
That being said, eventually she'll want an umbrella stroller. We have a Maclaren Volo. Pricey, but absolutely worth every penny. We've already used its worth in the past couple of weeks.
