Phase. He'll stop eventually. Try to ignore it (I know, I know... lol)... the less attention he gets from it, the sooner he'll find something else to do ...
this is funny but annoying and I hope he wil outgrow this soon. I dont have the heart to discipline when he is just playing but my 2 yr old has started a licking phase. quit laughing its not funny! I have tried licking back and he laughs when I do it. is there a way of breaking him of this without time out I can't see discipline for playing if he is not hurting anyone.HELP i HAVE BEEN LICKED THROUGH THIS WHOLE MESSAGE.
ok guys I realize this is not sanitary why do you think I asked for help breaking him of it. duh. second of all its more gross being the recipient. and as far as him learning to disobey by doing it I am not worried about that. I have a 21 yr old I raised by my self who knew when I meant buisness and seldom tested his limits. my step kids even know when not to push me. as far as the advice for breaking him thanks you had a lot of great ideas. glad to know I don't have the only licker in the bunch.

Oh, you got me teary! My nephew (Evan Fisher 11/15/2004-6/3/2010) started licking everyone when he was 3. It's one of my fondest, funniest memories of him. He was a relentless licker! Lol. My daughter (3) does this sometimes too, but not as often or as funny as my little Evan did. It'll pass, but hopefully not soon enough. :) Enjoy the silly times!
Thanks for the full belly laugh :) Be sure to get it on video for future use when he's a teenager!
Otherwise, maybe coat yourself with lemon juice or tabasco sauce and hope the phase passes quickly.
Trick him. Put some pickle juice or some other wierd thing on your face and then watch his expression next time he laps at ya.
Oh yeah girl, I had a licker too!! What a mess two year olds are!!!!!!!!!! He will outgrow it:) FUNNY!!!
Your last sentence is so funny! My son is 2 1/2 and he licks too. I can't stand to discipline him when he does it because he laughs and laughs and smiles and smiles and is so darn cute through the whole thing. Sometimes I can distract him....he's doing it less than he did earlier this month. I think he's growing out of it and I bet your son will too. Good luck!
How about flick his tongue a little. I have a friend who's 3 year old use to do it (she is 15 now) and they filled squirt bottles with lemon juice. Her mom is a nurse and realized that other people's face, hands and arms are VERY VERY dirty.... Including your own. How often are we washing our face and arms during the day. To prevent her daughter from getting sick, it was a habbit she knew she must break fast. She would explain to her that that would make her sick. When she would go to lick, they would lemon squirt! LOL.... The good news is that she is a teenager and no longer licks. LOL... Good luck. Maybe he thinks he is giving you a bath like the Lions do to cubs.....
LOL! I encourage my son to lick because its so funny! He wont do it without me telling him though. I tell him to go give daddy a slurp and he goes up and holds his dads head, makes a slurping noise and licks his face. Too funny! Maybe if you let him do it, he will get bored with it???
I think Bethany C. put it perspective. It can be annoying but adorable at the same time. He will outgrow it, but you will have the silly time memories forever.
If you really want him to stop sooner than later, maybe let lemon juice or something that he wouldn't like to taste on the areas that he licks the most.
My dd is only 21 months, so I guess I have this to look forward to...LOL. Oh, the joys of motherhood. No one ever told me about this though. Hehehe. <3
Definitely not funny. First, think of all the germs he's getting. Second, if you tell him to stop and he doesn't, then he's learning it's ok to disobey you. It's not play. He's figuring out if you mean what you say and if you're going to follow through.

Double posted for some reason. Sorry!
He will outgrow it...mine did it too, he was pretending to be a puppy, quite honestly in the beginning we were thrilled, that sounds strange, but Alex has had a lot of delays, and pretend play was actually a HUGE milestone. Since we had the added benefit of having a therapist at the house regularly anyway
( always looking on the bright side ) I of course asked how we stopped this behavior...the more attention he got for it obviously the more he was going to continue, so basically we would acknowledge it once...Mommy does not want to be licked, try to redirect then if that did not work, we ignored the behavior...ok I am not lying this did not stop over night...I want to say we had a good week or two of acknowledging, redirecting ( then ignoring!) and it is not easy...but now he is 3 and this only pops up as a reoccurance once in a blue moon! Good Luck!
