I have a sharp pain on my right side near my ovary. Some times it shoots down my leg.
I am almost five months and have never had any pain like this. I'm not bleeding, and it comes
on for about 10-15 minutes and them fades. It gets worse if I move around.
Should I go to the ER? Or wait to see my doctor this afternoon?
thankyou for replying so fast. I think after this I am finding a new doctor. The receptionist told me the nurse would call me back in 5 minutes. Now it's going on two hours and still nothing.
I saw the doctor finally, not a nurse. She told me it was a round ligament stretching on my right side. It was so painful! I hope it doesn't have to stretch much more!
Thanks again, P. H.

Just want to let you know that if the round ligament pain continues, you can make an appt with a Chiropractor and the should be able to ease the pain! I had terrible ligament pain and a disk in my back that was out due to how I was walking and they took care of it all! It was the best. Good luck with the pregnancy!

YES go to the ER!!!!! It could be appendicitis or an ovarian cyst. If it is just a cyst, depending on how large it is, they can at least give you something for pain. If it is appendicitis you can't wait!

Sounds like you are experiencing round ligament pain. Imagine a rubber band stretched really, really tight. That's what the round ligaments look like inside your abdomen. The more encumbered your uterus gets - the more strain on your ligaments.
Still, tell your doc about this pain. And, be sure to get your doc to tell you about round ligaments and how they get more elastic with each subsequent pregnancy.
JMO, save the ER for emergencies that involve not breathing and blood. ER Docs are like a box of chocolates ... you never know what you are gonna get! :)

P., you really need to go to the ER if you have not gotten any response from your doctor. It sounds like anything from ligaments stretching to something maybe serious. It is better to be safe then sorry. Let me know how it goes!!

I would do as others said and call a doctor who can actually help. I had this really bad groin pain when I was pregnant with #2. I'm not sure if it's the same thing or not. But, it was so frustrating. It got worse the further along I got. One thing that really seemed to help was swimming. I got in our pool almost every evening and kicking through the water really helped.

It almost sounds like your ciatic nerve. I've had it before, with my second child, now every once in a while it flares up again. I've gone to the emergency room and they said all I can do is take some motrin and put a heating pad on it. But, the ciatic nerve is the lower back area, and sometimes shoots down the leg. If your pain is in the front lower area, I recommend you go the emergency room. Don't wait on your doctors office, go to the ER as soon as possible. You don't want to take any chances, especially being pregnant. Hope all goes well. Let me know.

Hi P.
The pain that your getting could be from where the baby is positioned, maybe he/she is lying on a nerve thus causing the pain to shoot down your leg. My sister who is due today experienced a similar thing.
If the pain does get any worse i would go to the ER and let them check to see why your experiencing this pain.
Take care H. x

Hi P. I had the same thing and my doctor told me it was normal. It was my ligaments and muscles streching. It wll go away. My doctor also told that I could take tylenol pm to help with the pain it will not hurt the baby. I did and it helped cause the time I had the pain bothering me was at night and when I would switch to another position. Hope this helps good luck.

Could it be your sciatic nerve? Your doctor's office should call you back.

Definately call your doctor anyway...it may be just a pulled ligament. I did that with my first pregnancy and it was very painful. Good luck.

Hi P.. I had the same pain when i was about 8 months pregnant with my first child. My doctor told me it wasn't anything to worry about. That is was just my pelvic bone stretching. My son was huge and i am only 5'0. But i would call your doctor to be on the safe side. God Bless and good luck. :-)

Hello, I had two kids both early and from my experience I would say do what makes you feel safe and comfortable. If it is a reg. cramp I would say it's just that you are either tired and having growing pains but if you are feeling yourself tighten up when you have the pain I would say it's is a mild contraction.

if you are pregnant and no one will call you back from your doctor's office, i would go to the ER. it may be nothing and but it does, at the very least, bear a closer look.
also, i would look into changing doctor's. the nurse at the doctor's office could at least talk to you and help you decide if you need to go to the ER or be seen in the office today.

Sounds like your round ligaments...they stretch during pregnancy and since you're belly is probably growing rapidly at this point, thats probably all it is. If you already have an appt this afternoon and you arent bleeding and dont have any other symptoms, I would just wait it out. I know being preggers for the first time is nerve wracking and you dont know what to expect, but it will all be ok!

If your Dr. will not respond then I would go to the ER if you are worried about it. Then I would find a NEW OB! Not returning your phone calls is UNACCEPTABLE! Good Luck

it is more than likely just the baby and your new weight pressing on your sciatic nerve. nothing serious at all, just painful. stay off your feet as much as possible and wait for the doc. he might be able to prescribe something to help ease the pain.

Hi P.,
I had the same pain starting in my 6th month, and it turned out that I tore one of my pelvic ligaments that was supporting my belly. So the good news is that if you have the same thing, it is not dangerous and will not affect the baby at all. The bad news is that the pain gets worse as your belly grows. I could barely walk by my 9th month, because it hurt with every step I took.
But I would consider a new doctor if you don't hear from them soon...

Like most ailments to our body during pregnancy, this is probably nothing to worry about. BUT you do have a BIG problem here. If you are almost 5 months, you are about halfway. Any your docotr isn't returning phone calls? Unacceptable. Pregnant women need and deserve support from their doctor. This includes after hours responses to problems. I would address this with your doctor directly if you like him, if not make the switch now. You still have time to find someone you like. Tampa Bay Women's CAre in Brandon - awesome!!
