Hi,
We are finally moving....I have no problems with the school we are currently at, but this move is long overdue and delayed because of the housing market. We THINK are moving to Walnut Creek, but really like Pleasant Hill, especially its location. Anyway, my oldest 2 have gone through High School now...leaving me with my youngest three in High School....I will have two in 11th and one in 9th next year.
I don't know what schools are maybe "problem" schools...if any? My husband and I are going to make an appointment to go walk the campus of College Park because we know for sure that's a big possibility. Are there schools in W.C. or P.H. that any of you have had a bad experience with? Would you mind sharing? My kids are good kids (I'm not just saying that). We like their current high school although, it has had a bad reputation time to time. It's a good school with more to offer then most high schools, because of its size....Deer Valley, in Antioch. I love this school and so do my kids. The teachers and VP's are all wonderful....some of the students are little to be desired, but as long as my kids are doing well and staying out of trouble, this is what I call "the real world".
Any suggestions would be helpful...we need to start looking for prospective neighborhoods. Any suggestions in that are would be good too!
Thanks!
I would move to Walnut Creek, but make sure it is in an area in the Acalanes High School District (which would include Las Lomas High School). Las Lomas is impacted, but if you are in the district, my understanding is that your kids might be able to enroll at Acalanes High School in Lafayette on an inter?intra? district transfer. Both high schools are great academically.
5 teen daughters! wow! I would check great schools.net as they have reviews by parents and kids. Good luck!

Hi,
I've heard mixed things about College Park which is in Pleasant Hill. I've heard terrible things about Ygnacio Valley High so I wouldn't go there at all. Depending on where you move to in PH, you could be in the Ygnacio Valley district or the College Park. Also, in WC, Northgate is a good school as well as Los Lomas in downtown WC. I think most of the shcools in Lafyatte are good.
Hope this helps.

Hi, I don't know how easy it is to get a transfer if you end up moving to Pleasant Hill, but Las Lomas High School is known to be academically very good. Acalanes near Lafayette is also good. If you are Christians, Berean Christian School is awesome in Walnut Creek. My son, almost 15, goes to Las Lomas. Many of his friends from our church (NorthCreek Church on Ygnacio Valley Road) go to Berean and Las Lomas.
By the way, if you are looking for a really good Christian high school youth group, NorthCreek has an excellent one. We are just moving into our new church the weekend before Mother's Day if the final permits are granted. I highly recommend it. I am a discipleship group leader for the freshmen ladies and I speak from personal experience. What they will learn there will help them grow into respectful and value-driven adults who have a biblical worldview. It's tough in this day and age for teens. You would be welcome.
My best to you as you make these decisions. It's never easy to have a move during the teen years. My prayers will be with you and your family.
We currently live in Concord, which as you may know shares many PH/WC schools all as part of the MDUSD. My husband is a high school teacher (at Deer Valley, no less!!) and student taught at Las Lomas in WC. He was very underwhelmed with the staff on the whole. He said the kids were mostly good overall in terms of behavior. He really likes working at Deer Valley, despite the bad rap they get.
I've heard mixed reviews from parents about College Park. I'm curious to see what you find out when you visit. We live near Ygnacio Valley HS and I wouldn't recommend that AT ALL. I've heard good things about Clayton Valley HS and Concord HS as well, though those aren't in Pleasant Hill of course. I do like the neighborhood where we live and the elementary school. We're right on the Concord/Walnut Creek border.
We're moving to Antioch in June. Any tips for me on the school district there? :)
