If you are enrolled in Parents as Teachers through Shawnee Mission schools, you can go to their open playtime on Wednesday mornings. I am 38 & know there are a couple Mom's that look older than me!
I have been searching for a playgroup to attend with my 15 month old. The problem is not him, it is me. I am 46 years old and really want to enjoy this baby and all his stages. We had him late in life and all his sibling are much older. I decided to take one day a week off just to do things with him and thought a playgroup would be fun. However I haven't found one where I don't stand out like a sore thumb because I'm about 20 years older than all the other moms. Any suggestions for a group in the Overland Park area that can comfortably accommodate an 'experienced' mom?
Thanks everyone for your advice. Through your suggestions, I found MOMs Club of Overland Park. I'll send a contact email to all those who wanted information on a club if I found one.

S.....you shouldn't worry about how the world see you. When your with your child it's your world NO matter where you are. Life & people can be cruel but your NOT living life for them...live your life to the fullest, you decided to take one day a week to devote to your child NOT the other people. I commend you because starting over isn't easy but it seem as though you got it together girl! Now you go out gymboree or where ever God leads you that day & just do it! Good luck & God Bless.
Hi S.,
Have you heard of Parents as Teachers?? It is a program for children and parents before the child enters preschool. It is a great program and they have lots of play group times. There is a mix of moms at the one I go to with some with 3 or more children and some with two or just one. They have a national web site and then you can find the local group you will belong to. It is done though the school system so you could also try looking at your school districts web site for more information. Good luck!!
Dear S.,
I understand your problem. I'm a 41 year old working mother with a 3 almost 4 year old daughter. My husband and I also get that "older Parent feeling" when we take her to play groups or birthday parties. It is not that the younger parents are not pleasant they just don't seem to know what to do with us. I would love to participate in an older moms play group. My only problem is that I'm limited to evenings and weekends, because of my job. If that works for you let me know.
Best wishes,
J. N.
Join the club! I have three, ages 6, 9 & 12, and two who are 22, 24 and out! Although I don't have a baby to tote, I'd be happy to show up with smaller kids in tow...

You are not a sore thumb! In this day and age, many women are holding off on marriage and children, and finding themselves and their careers first. There is nothing wrong with that choice. I am 41, and have an (almost) 3 year old. I have a playgroup that meets one Friday per month (that is my chosen day off), and you are welcome to join us! The group has mom's of all ages (kids are all under 5), some woring, some not. Bottom line, we are all moms!

Hi S.,
I too am an "older" Mom. I am a first time Mom @ 43 (as of yesterday) and have a beautiful 8 month old daughter. I too would be interested in a playgroup for "older" Moms. I have decided to stay home with our daughter and would be available to attend a playgroup. I live in Olathe.
Let me know what you find out.
Thanks,
Cheryl
I completely know how you feel! I am 43 with a 3.5 year old girl, I also have an 18 year old girl getting ready for college and a almost 17 year old son. I would love to also join a play group in the Overland Park area. I am currently a VP with a large financial corporation for over 20 years and decided that it was time to enjoy my little one while I can and turned in my resignation. Needless to say I will now have extra time on my hands for play time. Please email me if you find an older mom play group. ____@____.com Thanks, C.
S.,
I have felt the same way you have. I am 38 with a 20 month old son, and I also have a 22 year old daughter. So I have tried some of the play groups and they are younger about my daughters age. So if you have found a group or if you would just like to get meet at a park for the kids to play, I would be up for that. We live in Raytown, MO but we always go to the JO area. Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.
