My husband and I always take an anniversary get away to Michigan, this year I would like to go to St. joseph or Grand Haven. I want luxury and can usually find it after a lot of research and help from moms on mamapedia. Any suggestions? Cost isn't a factor, well I guess I don't want to pay more than $300 per night (we are just going for a weekend)

What can I do next?

We ended up staying At the Harbor Grand hotel in New Buffalo, very cute little town, thank you for the suggestions

Have you been to Saugatuck? There are a lot of B&Bs there, and it is a cutesy walking town (with tourists).

Amazingly, Grand Haven doesn't really have many hotels on the beach. But I'd pick Grand Haven over St. Joe's.

I'd try to find a time share condo or cottage if money isn't an issue. There are not many extraordinarily nice places on the big lake. Mostly camping and private property.

Try the Pure Michigan website - it usually has lots of good info on MI.

St. Joseph is really not that nice. New Buffalo which is the first exit into Michigan...is a really cute little town. A few restaurants/bars...and the Harbor Grand Hotel is nice....it is right on the water.... so is the Marina Grand which we have stayed at. It is on the Marina hence the name....you can walk to the town or beach....the rooms are like suites with a full kitchen. http://www.marinagrandresort.com/

First you can drive up to Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and take the car ferry, S.S. Badger, across Lake Michigan to Ludington, Michigan: http://onthelake.net/excursions/ssbadger.htm
Then you can drive down to Grand Haven..
