At an ultrasound at 22 weeks it was determined that I have a low lying placenta, I was a little freaked out but calmed down. Now at 26 weeks my doc and I talked about it and I'm freaked out again. Can I hear your stories?? Good and bad, I just want to know what I'm in for here!

What can I do next?

I had a low lying placenta at my 20 week US as well. Like everyone else has mentioned - mine moved by the time I had my next US (at 28 weeks). Don't stress about it too much (though I know that's easier said than done!). It's pretty rare for the placenta to not move by the time you're full term. And as someone else stated - you would just end up with a c-section, but at least you'll know about it in advance and it wouldn't be an emergency c-section. I've had sections with both my kids and, well, it is what it is. They're not all that bad.

I stayed off my feet as much as possible, and other than cabin fever, I didn't have any problems. No c-section or anything.

My sister had a worse time and had to spend much of her pregnancy hospitalized, then have a c-section.

Still, we each had a healthy baby girl! And our pregnancies were over 20 years ago, and you know how much medical science improves in that much time!

I know it is scary and you think the worst. I had it too at 19wks, but it moved up as the uterus grew. My midwife told me to drink more fluids and eat more protein, so I added some rice protein powder in my milk whenever I ate cereals. I also ate two eggs per day, which is completely safe and recommended by the Bradley Birth Plan. My midwife also suggested some guided imagery to imagine it floating back up (I know sounds weird) but send positive vibes and you'll be fine!

I ended up to be very lucky. The placenta moved and was able to deliver my son normally. I actually did a lot of water aerobics during my pregnacy and the doctor say the movement may have helped a lot.

Good Luck

Me too, but mine moved up on it's own by 35 weeks. Don't worry yourself over nothing yet, it seems very common by the posts to move up on its own. Hooray for baby!

When I had my ultrasound at 16 weeks - they found that I had Placenta previa. They gave me some guidelines (no sex!) and periodically checked it. It moved well before my daughter was born.

Hi, I was told the same thing at my 20 week ultrasound, but it moved on its own and I had a normal vaginal delivery. I think it's pretty common, and in most cases it moves on its own. Hopefully yours will too! If not, they'll schedule a c-section a few weeks before your due date (or at least that's what my doc said) Good luck!

I had a low lying placenta with my last 2 pregnancies. Once I grew more, the placenta moved up the uterine wall, and I delivered normally both times. There were some bleeding episodes, which had me a bit freaked out, but both boys are happy & healthy. Don't be afraid to ask your OB for an ultrasound if you are nervous, or at the very least, a heartbeat check. Chances are, things will be fine, but a stressed mom leads to a stressed baby. Even if your placenta stays low lying, or you go to complete previa, a c-section isn't the worst thing in the world.

Most placentas will move up as the uterus moves. Pretty rare at term. Good luck!

I also had a low-lying placenta. I had a late ultra sound with both my pregnancies for the doctor to check and everything ended up being fine. So similar to what someone else has written-the placenta always moves :) Good luck and don't worry!

Hi! I had a low lying placenta with my 2nd child at 20 wk U/S. I, too was freaked out. What you hear is basically you go on bedrest! How do you do bedrest with other kids? My dr. didn't freak out about it, she said we would just do another Ultrasound at like 32 weeks (I believe). MOST cases I was told move up on their own which is wonderful and nothing else is needed. I did the 2nd ultrasound which proved mine had moved up on it's own. I guess until you get that 2nd one, you won't know anything. Unfortunately that is weeks away. Best of luck!
