Hi M.,
I am 39 weeks preggers. In most cases placent moves up as pregnancy progresses, so I wouldn't be worried yet. Mine was low in the beginning, but the it moved up in the anterior position.

Hi There,
This is my first time but I read the newsletter everyday. Thought I would try this out. I am 18 weeks a long. Just told Family and Friends and co-workers this past weekend. Had my ultra sound on Friday and found out we are having a little boy. My concern is my doctor called me this morning and was concerned that my placenta is an inch low in my uterus and wants me to go back for another ultra sound. I have one today. My question is should I be concerned? She said no to worry but it still concerns me. She told me no lifting, bending to much, no sex for at least 12-14 weeks, etc.
I went to the doctors and so far she hasn't recommended anything else and she said to make my 32 week appt and go from there. I haven't had any problems other than I'm used to doing things around the house and have to rely on my husband more which is weird and he's so wonderful about it. I haven't had any spotting so I'm not to worried. The worst that can happen is a c-section. So I'm pretty happy and doing well. Thanks so much everyone for your wonderful responses. They have helped me to stay less stressed about the whole situation. :)

Not to worry at all, its very normal. I had placenta previa and the placenta moved where it need to go by 35 weeks when my dr. sent me to get a level 2 ultrasound. if its still low after 35 weeks thats when you need to worry. hope this helps you feel better.
M.,
There is no need to be alarm at this point in the game. I also felt worried when I was told I had a low lying placenta during my pregnancy. Majority of the time, the placenta will move to the correct position during the pregnancy. If it doesn't, worst case scenerio is you have a C-section for delivery. Just do what the Dr. tells you and they will continue to have it monitored with ultrasounds, which actually is a good things. This means you get to see your little one more often. Good Luck!
I woulnd't worry too much. I had the same thing and as my preganacy moved along and I got bigger the placenta moved out of the way.
Hi M., I had plecenta previa in my second pregnancy and all was fine. She is now aklmost 14 yrs old. I had some early spotting and otherwise just had to do no lifting or strenuous excercise. I think it is very common so dont worry just be careful as you should anyway.
As long as you are spotting I wouldn't worry.
Previa can be very common and usually corrects itself as your uterus expands.
M.,
It is common. I had it with my second up until the last few weeks of my due date - it moved a few weeks before my son was born. They will continually monitor you. The good news is (until it moves) you get A LOT of ultrasounds and get to see your sweet little baby often.
Medical is so good these days if the placenta didn't move they would do a C section.
Everything will be fine.
Good luck! ...and congratulations.
I have had that problem with both my pregnancies. In most cases the placenta moves up more as you get closer. You should be fine. Worst case scenario is that you have to deliver by c-section. That is rare though. You should be fine. I was able to deliver both my daughters naturally. So if she thinks you should not worry-don't. It seems as if she is doing the ultra sound to soon to see, but your doc is the expert. So good luck and congrats!!
This is very common at this point in your pregnancy. For most people, as their uterus continues to grow, your placenta will move up to where it should be. They will continue to monitor you more closely to make sure it is moving, but it is usually nothing to worry about. I have several friends who were diagnosed with this at or around 20 weeks, and most had been corrected by 30 weeks. Good luck.
Hi M.,
Don't worry! It is so early in the pregnancy and it can correct itself - and probably will. I was at risk of this with my first pregnancy and it corrected itself, just as predicted.
Hi,
I had a placenta previas as they found out my uterous was actually heart shaped, just follow their advice and take it easy. Good Luck and Congratulations!

It can be a cause for concern, the important thing is NOT to get yourself stressed out over it.
But as the Dr. said NO, NO, NO, lifting anything more then 5lbs period at this point!
follow your doctors instructions, they are the best source of information on this situation!!!!!
Every pregnancy is different, so it is hard to based yours on someone elses experiences, as their condition may be noting like yours....
I will be praying for you, and I am sure you will be just fine as long as you follow your doctors instructions!
blessings,
J.
and CONGRADULATION!!!!!
Hi M.,
I am glad we have this forum to reach out to. Thanks for sharing your concerns.
I had the same thing occur to me. My doctor told me that it was too early to know for sure if P.P. was the case as it was too early at 18 weeks to know. They had me come back later on in the pregnancy which I did and all was okay.
BUT: I talked w/ my doula (who in turn talked w/ a mid-wife)and she told me that it would be wise to help the placenta grow via my diet (if i recall correctly- and it's been a year, the placenta does not move but it grows). I was told to go on a high protein diet. I began immediately eating 80-100 mgs of protien (lots of low fat yogurt and turkey burgers which are lean).
I believe that helped alot. When I went back in a couple of months later all was okay. I also think all that protein helped produce my 9.2lb baby girl!! And, it helped w/ my severe morning sickness which I had for up to 6 months.
I hope this helps.
Good luck. Please keep us posted.

I had Placenta Previa. I found out by bleeding at 9 weeks. I was on bedrest for almost my entire pregnancy. My advice to you in addition to what your doctor has already given, STAY IN BED 3/4 of the day, limit your sitting up and walking. By doing this your baby will grow and with the growth of the baby your placenta should move as well. In my case, I blood vessels were very close and eventually started to tear causing the bleeding. I also had to have a c-section. Look up more info on mayoclinic. They were helpful for us. And more than likely make sure you get your State Disablilty in order too. That can take up to 7 weeks to get started.
Best of luck.
Hi M.,
I am also pregnant and about 19 weeks. Last night I noticed very light spotting. I was and still am very concerned. It is the weekend so I must wait for Monday to see my doctor. I did speak with the doctor over the phone though and he had advice of "wait and see". He said I should not be too alarmed but to take it easy. I stumbled upon your question and it has helped me a lot with my situation. Good luck to you and God bless!

M.-
I had placenta previa when I was pregnant with twins. I followed my doctors advice and we forunate enough that it self corrected and I carried my twins to 37 1/2 weeks and had a normal vaginal delivery (2 hours 20 minutes.
Good luck!

I had placenta previa with my first baby, she is now 2.
Sometimes, it moves before you give birth. Mine did not, everything was o.k. until I was about 30 weeks along, at that point I started bleeding heavily. I went into the hospital to be placed on a fetal monitor overnight. I was also given a steroid shot to ensure that the baby's lungs would develop in case i had to give birth early. You cannot deliver naturally with placenta previa. I was in the hospital 2 more times with heavy bleeding, however, the baby was not in distress so I was able to hold on for a while longer.
At 35 weeks, the bleeding started contractions and I had an emergency C-Section. It was very scary, but the hospital worked rapidly to get the baby out. She was perfectly healthy at 6lbs.
I have learned since that this is common but most of the time the condition clears up before it's an issue.
Best of Luck to you!
M., you definitely need to be concerned about placenta previa. I don't want to scare you, but I had a similar problem and was put on immediate bed rest. I stayed there until I ended up losing my baby. It was tragic and I think you shold know to take very good care of yourself and give the baby every chance to stay in the womb as long as possible. I went to twenty weeks and then the placenta abrupted and the umbilical cord prolapsed. Be sure to ask your doctor as many questions as possible and even consider bed rest for the duration of your pregnancy. Good luck to you and your husband. My prayers will be with you.
Hi Melinda,
First i just want to say that this is a great place to get support and adivce on anything. Everyone here is really supportive and we are all going through the same thing, being moms.
I had the same thing happen to me with the placenta pervia. I had to everything the doctor told you to do. i would not worry to much. As the baby grows the uterus streches and the placents moves. When i had a ultra sound at 30 weeks my placents had moved so much that i no longer had a pervia. So i would not worry until the doctor tells you to. Now a days it so wonderful that we know what is going on the uterus so ealry. the worst thing that well happen if you stay in top of it is youwell have to have a c section. (Which i think there is something pretty cool about knowing exactly when your little boy is going to come into the world) So try hard not to stress and just take really good care of yourself and your little boys gowing inside of you.
make sure to let us know what happens please. I well be thinking about you.
Good Luck

Hi M., you may have nothing to worry about. With both of my pregnancies my placenta sat low and towards the end migrated in to a good position. Some just take longer than others. It's very serious but yours may also migrate and things could be fine. I'm sure your dr. will keep you properly informed. Best of luck. A.
I had a previa, or low lying placenta, that corrected itself in my 7th or 8th month. If it didn't, then I would have eventually been put on bed rest. Just do what the dr. says - take it easy until they know for sure.
Hi: I had an unfortunate experience and lost a baby boy. My main thing is that the baby presses down towards the vagina and can squeeze the placenta because of gravity. I started to spot and the doctor told me to lay down. If I would have stayed laying down the rest of my pregnancy (I was 5 months)I probably wouldn't have lost him but I had 6 other kids so the "laying down" guilt was too much and I had to get up and tend to house and family. I spotted more, bled more til I finally just bled. I don't know how I could have been so stupid. If you have to stay laying down with this pregnancy with a little getting up now and then to go to the bathroom and such, do it, for your baby.
