Pink Eye? - Houston,TX

Are you breast feeding by any chance. If yes the squirt a little breast milk in the eye and use warm compresses. My pediatrician said this is a very good way of fixing it. I did it with both my kids recently and it was great.

Are you breastfeeding? Express a little milk and put a couple drops in everyone's eyes a few times a day. When ODS got pink eye a couple months ago I did this and it was cleared up in less than a day. The dr didn't even give him the antibiotic eye drops b/c it was cleared up by the time we got to the dr.

If you're not BFing, call the dr and get in and start the drops asap. Urgent care clinics would be great for the weekend. And clean everything!!

From experience....when I had it my eye ran a lot and it did have crust on it like when I woke up. The first day it was so bad I could barely open my eye 1st thing in the morning. I don't think it was ever like you said....just red and irritated. It is EXTREMELY contagious! If you don't want the baby to get it...keep him away! And when I had it I went to the doctor and got drops for it....I am not 100% sure if it would go away on it's own. It itches so bad and is so irritating that I had to go to the doctor! Does your child suffer from allergies....that's what it sounds like to me but I'm not a doctor! Good luck!

It is probably the beginning stages of pink eye. You can buy over the counter drops at the drugstore now and they work. Keep your older Son's hands clean as well as cleaning things within his reach. As well, clean all the toys they share or keep them separate.

My daughters PED told me pink eye comes from having a runny nose and then rubbing the eye after getting the ick on your hands.

it will go away on his own. dont let him touch the baby till its gone. he rubs his eye and touches the baby and then the baby touches his eye and the baby gets it. you can also rub a gold ring on his duct but it has to be pure gold. I never got crusty with pink eye just what you described.

I thought for sure I had pink eye, turns out it was just allergies ( it was very windy, and I rubbed them). My opinion is that pink eye would have gummed up by now. Pink eye will crust and gum the eyes shut pretty quick. Keep an eye on it.

Put plain Visine eye drops in his eyes twice a day. That is what I have always done for my son at the first sign of red in his eyes. Whether it is allergies or pink eye the drops will help. My eye doctor told me to do this and that is safe for all ages as long as it is the plain original Visine drops.

And he doesn't have to open his eye for the drops. Have him close his eye but not squeeze it shut tight. Put 2 drops in the corner of his eye and tell him to blink. That is enough to spread the drops into his eye without fighting to hold his eye open.

The over the counter drops DO NOT treat bacterial pink eye (the more common one that kids get) it only helps (does not treat) the symptoms of viral pink eye. I thought for sure my youngest had it and turned out he actually had a sinus infection. Call your ped and describe how his eyes look most will just call in the needed prescription for you without an actual office visit.

There are 3 types of conjunctivitis, bacterial, viral and allergic. If the eyes are just irritated with no discharge I second the idea of using over the counter saline eye drops. (I would stay away from any medicated ones though as they may cause more irritation.)

Other signs to look for, is he running a fever, congested or any other symptoms. Conjunctivitis is almost always a complication of a cold (if not contracted from someone else) so if he has any other symptoms it could be something else going on.

If there is no other symptoms I would take the wait and see approach and use the eye drops.
