Pigment Changes on Arm?

Hello - my daughter is 4 and 1/2. Ever since she was a baby, she's had this one small spot on her arm that is slightly darker and will turn red after being out in the sun, but after going inside it goes away, and it was never raised/rash, etc anything like that. Starting a couple days ago, I noticed after coming inside it was now slightly raised and can feel like a knot underneath the skin. Yesterday it was starting to go down, and I do plan on calling the dr. about it, but just curious if anyone else has ever seen something like this? She says it does not hurt or itch or anything like that, so I don't know if it's just a pigment abnormality that is not "serious"? Trying to not over-react, but trying to not make light of it either if that makes sense. Thanks!

What can I do next?

never has the slighty raised skin. but a few years ago i ended having a white dot on my arm.. it gets a lil bigger every so number of yrs

my father has that pygment thing on his arms, never had cancer, but has other issues medical wise. He doesnt stay in the sun much.
before over reacting, talk to the doc see what the doc says. could just be the pygment thing. my dad only has it on his lower arms and on his face. its more white/ and red. but my dad is in his in his 60's though. he only had on his arms when iwaslil, his face didnt start till 50's with pygment changes.

more then 40% of the us has it, just its brushed off. as just that pygment disorder thing.
see what the doc says.

A friend of mine has a birth mark on her upper arm that does that also. It would get a reddish brown after being in the sun and then back to normal about an hour after being inside. Sometimes if you pushed on it it would feel like a bump under it. I would have it checked but might be the same thing.

It sounds exactly like something mom had that & my sister does now. It was an allergy to the sun. Make sure she has LOTS of sunscreen--AT LEAST 50 SPF on when she's outside. If she does, she should be fine :)

Call the doctor. Few, if any, of us are medically trained, so it's just speculation regarding what it is.

My concern, as a parent, is that it continues to grow and reacts to sunlight. I have no idea what it would be, so I'm guessing that the pediatrician will (or should) ask you to see a Dermatologist if it's not a simple, but relatively uncommon condition.

The worst thing that can happen, if nothing's wrong, is that you've spent a little money and gained invaluable peace of mind.

I had found something on my collarbone when my 2nd child was a few weeks old that most doctors attributed to being related to post-partum hormones. My gut told me to press, and I had a serious medical condition. Don't ignore your gut if it's telling you to go to the doctor.
