Okay, so not really, but that's the song that comes to mind, and at this point I'd consider it. Probably you've never heard that song, but it's on at least one Dr. Demento cd, so, yeah....
ANYWHO.... So I (obviously) have a pigeon problem. They used to just be irritating because they sent my cat into a fit. Now they have literally $h** all over my front porch. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of them other than calling up Orkin or something?
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone! I had heard of the reflective things before, but it just seemed so strange. The owners of the house had already put the roosting strips/spikes in some areas, but I don't think I'd be able to get them in the major problem spot as it is too high up to reach unless I want to go get a gigantic ladder that I'll never use again. :) I like the website that had the spice suggestions. It looks like I might be climbing out of my bedroom window and seeing if I can climb out on the small (it's probably 2 ft wide, but still) ledge that is there.... Wish me luck because I am TERRIFIED of heights!
Tie a string to old CD/DVD's and hang from the porch. The sun reflects off them and scares the birds off. Good luck.
This might sound crazy, but a friend told me about drilling or punching a small hole in CD's and hanging them from fishing line. I didn't have pigeons, but lots of birds were eating and ruining the fruit from my trees.
He said there was something about the swinging, twisting, and flashing of the colors that they didn't like. It scared them.
You know what? It worked!
It's worth a try and actuall pretty cool when headlights hit them at night. They're like flourescent. Even moonlight causes them to flash. In the daytime, I bet you can keep them away.
There are no chemicals. You can even hang bells from them.
It's worth a try.
That's what I did with all the free CD's I got in the mail for AOL, etc.
I put them to good use.

Pigeon stakes work great-strips of plastic spiked that keep them from landing comfortably, but cause no real harm. Plastic predators, like snakes or owls also work, from what I've heard. We had an exterminator install the stakes where the pigeons were roosting and that worked for us.

I have a large, very effective bird dog you could borrow if you want to make the drive. Birds, cats, rabbits don't stray within 10 feet of our property lines anymore. Even though the dogs are restricted to the back yard. Most the time.
I second the "fluttery" things. Personally, I think CDs on strings would look tacky, but there are ribbons and other things you can buy (or copy the idea and make yourself) that will scare them off. I've seen, though, that pigeons are very stubborn and may come back, so you might want to come up with a few different ideas and put them on a rotating schedule! On commercial buildings, I've seen wire mesh and spikes used to keep them away! Oh, and make sure you're not leaving out anything that they want (cat food, bird feeders, etc)! Good luck!
My parents had that problem on their covered balcony for years. They solved it by bringing in their patio furniture in the winter months. Since they were no longer nesting there in the winter they choose not to hang out in the summer. Good luck! It is a dirty problem!!
Pigeons aren't a problem here. However, the Canadian Geese are...
Make sure they have nothing to feed off of and make sure they have no place to "rest".
