Picnic Food to Withstand the Heat

Does anyone have any ideas for lunch that can withstand the heat? I know those tuna packets can but to me that is more like a snack. I know peanut butter and Jelly can. Is there anything else. We plan on hauling this stuff with us all day because some don't like walking back to the car to get it out and then go back in. We are going to Atlanta.

What can I do next?

Pack the cooler with plenty of ice and you should be fine.

added:
Cooked chicken, pasta salad without mayo--use a different dressing. Fresh fruit or fruit salad.

grape tomatoes
carrots
celery
bell peppers strips
hummus
grapes
bananas
oranges
apples
peanut butter - jelly tends to soak into bread - maybe bring them separately and make sandwiches at your destination
crackers
nuts

My son and I own a little cooler that looks like a suitcase on wheels. We use it on day trips and have often pulled it along behind us. That way we have cold drinks to combat the heat.

Personally I vote for a lunch break where everyone goes back to the car and tailgates it in the AC. Good rest break if you are bringing little ones with you.

Have a fun trip!!!!!
God Bless

We love banana wraps. Take a whole wheat tortilla shell (the soft ones) and spread a good amount of peanut butter on it. Slice up a banana and wrap it up. Easy & yummy! =) Take baby carrots or celery for a veggie, and an apple or fruit cup for a fruit. You're set!

Can you take coolers or insulated lunch totes? They do make some soft sided coolers that are easier to carry, or stick in the basket under a stroller. You could even pull a wagon and put a cooler in that. Everyone can take turns pulling it. We do that when we go to the zoo. To save money on ice, fill gallon jugs with water (not all the way), then freeze them. It will keep the food cold, and you can drink the water as the ice melts.

Use a couple of ice packs in a 6-pack cooler. Better yet, you can freeze juice pouches and use them instead of ice packs. That should keep your food (like sandwiches) fine until lunch time.

If you decide against ice packs, just avoid meat/fish and the like and you should be fine. Pasta salad and fruit would be good, for example.

Unfortunately, a lot of packaged, processed foods come to mind. How about those packets of 6 cheese and cracker or p.b. and crackers (the brand by us is Lance)? The cheese is so processed it doesn't have to be refrigerated - it's in the cracker isle. Chips. Lots of fruits will be ok, I think, like blueberries in a container, whole bananas, apples stuff like that. Warm water would be better than warm juice or soda.
