How much do you ladies think I should pay for a wedding photographer?

I was quoted 2200$ from one lady, that would include the getting ready/during the ceremony and at the reception...

I don't know what to compare it too....

What can I do next?

I paid more for my photographer, but he was there all day. It depends what you are looking for. If she's willing to do a lot of candid and photojournalism and she plans on having an assistant along AND is also including packages or albums, engagement pics, etc., then I would think it's a good deal. I'd say look around at a couple more and if you like her the best, go for it!

As some have said, I would second the feeling that photography is probably the single most important vendor you hire for a wedding. A good photographer will make everything look the best even if you didn't have the biggest budget. It's the best place to put your money because it's the only thing that you'll have after the wedding. You may want to evaluate or reevaluate your budget and reallocate to allow for an experienced professional.2200 is VERY reasonable for a full-time professional wedding photographer.
It would not be at all uncommon to spend significantly more (2x +) in some areas for the coverage of the entire wedding day.

I just got married a week and 1/2 ago (just now back from the honeymoon), just had the chance to look at our wedding photos and I couldn't be happier. I am in the party planning business and believe that the quote you are getting is pretty main stream for WEDDING photographers. Unfortunately, not all brides want a pre-planned package (I know we didn't as I wanted to be the one in control of what pictures were taken, when they were taken and how they were taken).

All that said, I stumbled upon a wonderful photographer whom I absolutely LOVE. She is an independent contractor and is incredibly flexible. She takes the time to get to know you and your fiance and all your wants, needs and likes and then tailors her approach to your wedding to those specifics. She takes GREAT photos and is INCREDIBLY inexpensive!!!

Her name is Jackie Boldt and her website is www.jackieboldtphotography.com. She also has a blog where she posts information on what she is doing and backs it up with some representative photos (a couple of my wedding are there right now): http://www.jackieboldtphotography.com/blog.

Good luck with your decision. Here's to a wonderfully captured event.

That sounds about right for a long day like that. I have worked for Proex for about 12 years and we just started doing weddings. I am not one of the photographers (no time with my 2 little ones!) But Karen at the Apple Valley is one of my best friends and has actually worked there longer than me! The number there is ###-###-####. There is no obligation for a consult, I am not exactly sure of the costs, but there are many different packages. Give it a try!

I think we paid more than that and our photographer wasn't at the reception. If you really like the pics that this photographer has taken in the past, I think it's worth every penny! The photos (and a wonderful husband!) are all you have after the big day to remember it. It's worth it to have a great photographer that can capture your day! You'll only regret spending too much on a photographer once. You may regret not getting the photographer that you wanted for a very long-- every time you look at your wedding photos.

I would call two more photographers and see what they quote you. This will give you an idea if your $2200 quote is too high. We only had photos taken before the wedding and it was around $800. I think your quote is about right for what you want.
