Photo/negative Scanner Recommendation

I have a ton of old negatives and slides and photos (some color/some black and white) that I wanted to scan and download into my macbook. Does anyone have a scanner that they like? I was ready to buy one unit and then read the reviews (which we negative), so I would like to find out if you have had good/bad experiences with scanners. Thanks for your help.

I wanted to do the same thing. My husband bought the canoscan 4400F online last year for about $80. It's basic. Nothing fancy at all, but it worked! A more expensive scanner may do a better job but I wouldn't know. I was happy just to get the darn things off of my Dad's old slides. Some of them were not salvageable, but many came out great! It's hard to know whether another scanner could do any better or whether it had to do more with the old slides and photos.

I made slideshows for my kids when they graduated high school and college last year. I made slideshows with my mac and gave them to my sibs at Thanksgiving from my Dad's slides. It was a blast! I will tell you that when I updated the latest Leopard on my mac the scanner didn't work. A neighbor came over and fooled with it and got it to work again. It had something to do with the update.

GOOD LUCK!

We purchased an Epson Perfection V500 photo scanner last year and have scanned in a lot of old slides, negatives and photos. We really like the results, especially when we used the scanner's touch up features on the oldest shots. We paid about $200 for ours; not sure what the prices are now, but we feel we got a great scanner. It's fun to see the old shots on the computer! Good luck!

Shutterfly does it for really cheap. My mom sent in a ton of slides and they only have you pay for the pictures you want. It was so much easier and not expensive. What you are talking about is VERY labor intensive!

Hi there!
I found myself in the same situation... I was thinking about doing it myself but found out that it would take me weeks to do it.
All the scanning and then editing... So I gave up.

Then I found out about http://www.ScanCafe.com and their service. It's a lifesaver! Fantastic prices, easy to do. You just put everything in the box and mail it to them. In couple weeks you will be able to review and select the pictures you want and then you get a DVD with them. Easy, painless and cheap. Most of all you save TIME and hassles with doing it yourself!

Check them out! I highly recommend them. Plus, they have all kinds of promotions like 25% off and such. Like now they offer 25% off if you place order by the end of this weekend with this coupon: MERRY25.

And the great thing is you can place order today and then take a week to put all your stuff in the box and mail it.

I don't work for them - I am a karate instructor (www.PowerOfKarate.com). But I cannot say enough good things about them. I have been absolutely satisfied with what they did for me (over 2000 slides and negatives and old photos). So go ahead and check them out at http://www.ScanCafe.com
