Hi There,

Has anyone used the Peter Potty Urinal? I have a 22 month-old son who is just starting to potty train. I've read the reviews for it and everyone has glowing comments. We just started and he isn't very excited about sitting on the potty. My concern is that if I purchase the Peter Potty to pee in, he won't learn how to sit on the potty to poop. If you've used this product please let me know your positive and negative experiences. Also, let me know how you encouraged your munchkin to sit down to poop.

Thanks in advance!

I broke down and bought it. My son's daycare was using it so I wanted to be consistent. I really like it. To train him I put it in my living room b/c he didn't want to stop playing to go to the bathroom so having it near helped. He learned to then go standing up at the toilet so whenever we are out I don't have to worry about having my toilet seat cover so he doesn't fall in! We are still working on the poop training. He doesn't mind sitting on the toilet he just doesn't always know when he is pooping - I think! I am noticing signs though so trying to take him and make him sit for a while when he does it. Good luck - my son is 3 and we still don't poop on the potty!

My son never wanted to use anything but the regular toilet. We used the Baby Bjorn seats for the toilet a little bit, but he always just wanted to sit up there and balance! He really enjoys lifting the lid and peeing like his Daddy. Get you hubby to go with him a lot to show him how it's done! Depending on how tall your son is, he may need a step stool to stand on.

For pooping -like I said -mine has always wanted to balance himself on the regular seat. He allowed the Baby Bjorn and Diego potty seats that fit over the regular toilet lid for a little while, but not long!

I don't know if I would invest in the Peter Potty Urinal until I really tried letting him use the regular toilet for a little while. Also, keep in mind that a lot of boys are slower than girls to train. We made a lot of progress over my son's 2nd year, but he turned 3 in March and that really seemed to cement it. He's been truly trained -nighttime too- for about 2 months now.

Jellybeans!

With my son I would buy cheapo fruit loops and have him grab a fistful toss them in the toilet and while he pee's he had target practice. He loved going!

good luck J.

I never used this, but thought I'd answer your last question. I taught my two oldest boys to potty by sitting down only. I had heard so many friends talk about their boys, even at age 10 and so stand up and pee all over the floor and just not aiming right. I did ask them how they potty trained them and it seemed to be the same answer from each friend...taught them standing up, etc. Now, I'm not saying that my way is the only way. I just figured since you are already teaching the little one to get potty trained, why add more to it. Just teach him to sit on the potty and just do that..pee or poop. My boys were taught at 2 years 6 months and then they started standing up to pee around 5 or 6yo. I haven't had a problem at all with them not aiming right or anything. They are 10 and 11yo currently. (I started having kids late, so I had plenty of time to see what my friends were doing.)

I suggest you to have your son's daddy go with him in bathroom privately. He can show your son how to pee in toliet and how to poop (sit down) in toliet. Have him do it to show your son so he can watch and learn then let him take turn.

Make a chart for potty (pee and poo) everyday. You can treat him out every friday or satursday (out to eat or let him pick new toy, or whatever)

When he do it each day, give him a cookie or candy.

Let him pick his favorite characters underwears.

If he have accident, its OK. Don't punish. He is still learning. Have a lot of patience with him.
