Pet Sitter or Pet Boarding for 2 Large Dogs?

Hi,

I'm going on vacation for a week in June ( I know its a while away, but trying to figure it out). I have 2 large dogs. A male english pointer and a Female Pit Bull. They are both very friendly. They stay indoors most of the time except to go play outside and use the potty. They are both crate trained also. At first I was thinking about a pet sitter, but after reading, they all usually only stay 30 min at a time. My dogs like to go in and out frequently and so i 'm not sure how that would work. When I go to work or the store they go in their crate (only up to 4 hours as there is either my son or husband that comes home to let them out). I looked into boarding places(pet resorts etc) and they seem pretty fun, but I am a little worried they won't want my pitt bull girl there. does anyone have any suggestions? or know of any places they can recommend? I also have 4 cats, but my friend is going to come by once a day to check on them. They are indoor and pretty self sufficient besides cleaning out their cat box, have not been able to train them to do that yet..LOL.

Thanks!!!

So What Happened?

I have called a couple of people that were recommended on here and emailed one. I am waiting to hear back:) I definitely have decided to board them..but I will be taking them a few times for the day to the place I decide on before our trip so they feel comfortable.

My daughter uses Camp Bow Wow in Coppell for her dog and loves it. I have picked her dog up several times and they seem wonderful.

You could meet in the middle and hire someone to house sit. That way, someone will be there most of the time with the dog. Instead of caring for your cats, your friend could stop by occasionally to check on the house sitter. I imagine finding a trustworthy sitter is the most challenging part. Hopefully you have someone in mind.

I haven't read your other responses yet, but after reading that you have a pitt, I had to respond. We too have a girl pitt and she's the BEST dog I've ever had (and I've had dogs my whole life). That said, when we had to board her for the first time in years over Thanksgiving, I was shocked at how many places turned us away based on her breed alone. I'm not sure where you are geographically, but we ended up finding this place through our vet located off of 380. It's called Go Fetch. The lady who runs the place will come pick up your dogs, and bring them back to you. She actually seems to care more about the dogs than the money (though she charges what other places charge so she's not taken advantage of.). http://www.gofetch-pets.com/ And she judges a dog based on the dog, not the breed!!! :)

I'm not sure where you live, but if you're looking for a Pet Sitter...someone to come into your home, go to http://www.preciouspaws-ftw.com/. A friend of mine owns Precious Paws and she would absolutely take great care of your dogs. She is super sweet and LOVES all animals. :-)

Have a rotation between the friend and a pet sitter - one in the morning and one later in the day. We've used Peggy (the Pet AuPair) at ###-###-####. She charged us $20/visit, once a day, to check in on our cat and do food, litter box, and some attention.

We use a friend of ours teenager. He stays at our house while we are gone and takes care of the dogs. We pay him $10.00/day and I supply food and sodas for his stay. He loves our dogs and this is a way for him to get away from his little sisters and earn some money. Just a thought.

I do boarding from my home. It's a wonderful alternative to a facility. And I specialize in dogs that many facilities or sitters don't like to take. Example: large working breed dogs, owners that feed raw, owners that dont believe in full vaccination, etc... Please contact me directly for details.
