Personal Question... May Be TMI...

How do you know if you have a yeast infection? Lol. I don't know how I have managed to go my entire life so far without experiencing one... but in the last few days I have been SOOO rediculously itchy 'down there' that I am having to run to the bathroom every 10 minutes to itch... I'm starting to rub myself raw! (NOT a good place to be happening...) What are the general symptoms of a yeastie? Is there a way I can tell without having to go to the doctor's? What else could it be? The only issue I am having is really bad itching. No discharge or anything like that. Help! It's driving me nuts!

What can I do next?

I have see a commercial on tv about an over the counter test but can't remember the name, however, if it is that itchy you should really go see a doctor, because even if it is or not something is going on, and is better to know what and get some treatment.

There are over the counter test kits you can buy now to determine what kind of infection it could be. Yeast infections aren't always coupled with discharge so it could be yeast. Best way I can describe the yeast infections I've had is that the inside of my vagina itches like CRAZY. I just want to stick a back scratcher up there and go to town. ha! Anyway... good luck! I know it sucks!

Monostat makes good over the counter treatments - their topical itch cream works very well.

Know that, in some cases, you can pass this infection back and forth with your partner - tho' men don't have the symptoms we do.

Feel better soon.

Go to the doctor to be sure....I wouldn't suffer with it any longer. I use to get them several times a year...I would say to try the over the counter stuff but you need to know for sure what it is first since this is a first for you.

Go to the doctor for sure to get a good diagnosis.

For the itch, try Apple cider vinegar. Get the Braggs brand with The Mother. Use a cotton ball and apply it down there. You might need to dillute it with water. It may sting because you've been scratching it, but once the sting fades you'll feel RELIEF!! If you don't want to do that, make a sitz bath. Fill a bathtub with warm water, enough for you to sit in. Add Apple Cider Vinegar and soak in the bath.

The Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) won't hurt you, and if it's a yeast infection it can help cure it. When I get them and I get the itch ACV is the only thing that helps! Everything else takes the itch away for about 15 minutes, and then it returns.

Yeah. Definately go see the dr. You don't want to self diagnose yourself. Lucky for you this is your first one. You'll be ok.

sounds like the yucky yeast to me! i never had discharge like what people describe - EVER. always just that on-going, nagging itching. :(
if you're cool w/your dr. see if they'll call you in a 'script for Diflucan...if not, put the creamy gunk down there for a few days (Monistat, etc) and it'll clear up.
sorry girl, i thnk we can all relate and it SUCKSSSS!!!

You really should go to the doctor, especially if any of it is internal vs. external genital itching. I didn't know I had one when I was pregnant, just horrible pain during intercourse and then there was a tiny bit of blood (from the irritation) but mentioning that when I was pregnant they did a culture and I had both yeast AND bacterial infections, so I needed an antibiotic and over-the-counter yeast treatment. I don't remember other symptoms like odor or discharge since I was having the normal pregnant stuff.

Go to the OB/GYN and get them to test, it may be yeast or bacterial vaginosis which won't go away without antibiotics. Anyway why suffer any longer and tomorrow is Friday so if you let it go you will either suffer through the weekend or end up in the emergency department. So I would get things taken care of.

There are two forms of yeast infection. One has the smelly cottage cheese-like discharge, which is really obvious. The other is equivalent to jock itch or a yeast related diaper rash. You sound like you're describing the latter. Just call your ob/gyn office, and see your doctor to get it diagnosed. He'll prescribe something like Nystatin (same thing used for the diaper rash caused by yeast) which will clear it up in a few days. But it really is good to get it checked because it could be something else entirely.

That SOUNDS like a yeast infection....there are a myriad of things that can cause them.....

Have you changed anything lately - detergent? soap?
Been swimming and left your bathing suit on for a while?
Having a lot of sex and not "washing" afterwards?
Change in your diet?

I can say that my niece contracted HPV and it presented on HER like a yeast infection....now EVERYONE is different...but you NEVER KNOW!!

try eating some yogurt. that MIGHT help but I would talk to my OB/GYN and see if I can get in to be seen. There is an over the counter (OTC) product that you can do a test for a yeast infection.

Take my word for it... antibiotics can cause a yeast infection... everytime I have to take antibiotics I have to take Diflucan to counter the yeast. For the itch... use Desitin... helps if you have burning also. Monistat or other otc meds work most of the time IF it is yeast. If this doesn't work for you... get a check up.

A cottage-cheesy-like substance. If you have a yeast infection, you won't have the itch without the discharge.

Thanks for trusting us to ask. YES, you have a yeast infection. Go to the store and pick up some Monistat. There are different brands and different strengths. Make sure the one you get has a topical cream. This you can apply for immediate relief while waiting for the medicine to kick in. Drink plenty of water and cranberry juice and wear cotton undies and pants. Stay away from synthetic underwear and pantyhose. You should start feeling better in a couple of days.
Now, if that doesn't solve your problem, go to the doctor because it can be something else more serious.
Good luck!

Go to your dr!!!!! I just went through the same thing. I was so itchy and irritated but had no weird discharge. I thought it was my soap or the different toilet paper i switched too. Trust me, its worth the trip to the dr to be checked, beats scratching yourself everyday!!! But no i had a yeast infection, dr prescribed a cream and I feel so much better!

If there's no discharge, it could be a bacterial infection. If the ph balance is off, it can cause an infection. For example, if you have gone a while without sex, then have sex. If you change detergent, had a baby, etc. If you purchase and use a OTC yeast infection med., it will make the bacterial infection WORSE!!! So, the best thing to do is to go get it checked out by a dr.

I have had both a yeast and a bacterial infection. They feel very similar....

you can have itch with no cheese... I get that! Dont scratch, it makes it worse, keep it clean, even if there is no discharge, there is something there, that you can rinse- it relieves itching, and use some monistat or ask the pharmacist for the generic equivalant, its the same stuff they use for jock itch or athletes foot. Yes, first time yeast infections SHOULD go to the Dr... (I doubt its anything else. Stress, antibiotics, too much soap, bubble bath, sugar, hormones, hot & sweaty privates that dont get enough air, pantihose, there are so many things that contribute to yeast.

I never experienced one until i got pregnant with my first. You can have white clumpy discharge, itching, and irritation from intercourse. Also you maybe swollen and red. There is a test you can buy over the counter at drug stores or walmart that can tell you if its a yeast infection. If it is then you can buy some yeast infection medicine over the counter as well and it will come with some vaginal itch cream which works really good.

it is very itchy for sure. sometimes you have a yellowish discharge, sometimes your urine is cloudy, and sometimes you have a smell that is not so clean. You need to call your OB asap and have them call in a Diflucan (sp) for you. (Di-flu-can). It works literally in 24 hours. You can go to the store and get a 3 day cream but the pill works faster and better. Put a cream on the outside to help with the itching. If it gets WAY too bad, sometimes so bad I couldn't sleep, I would sleep with a cold washcloth down there! ohhh they are awful. good luck!
