Hello ladies. I have a 2 year old w/ a rash that won't quit. I've tried triple paste (and bunch of other creams), cortizone, calendula, almond oil, castor oil, cutting juice out, adding lots of water, changing bath wash and leave his diaper off as much as possible- which is rough because he's not poddy trained.
Help if you can- anyone else go through this?
Anything I haven't tried--
Thank you so much for your responses. I think it is yeast related so I've started with Vagisil Wednesday and it seems to be getting better. I also switched to some all cotton diapers from Better Health Store- they are really expensive- but we haven't had to fight him to get a diaper on.

I have a 2 year old who also has had a rash for about 2 months now. I can get it calmed down, but certain things make it flare up and get blisters. My doctor precreibed a cream called Nystatin, and then Magic Butt Cream. The magic Butt Cream is a mix of Mylanta, Desitin, and the Nystatin. I have also quit using baby wipes, and that seems to help. I hope I could help.

You can cut a strip of polar fleece and line the diapers with them. There great for keeping baby's skin off the wet cloth diapers, or disposable - just don't toss the fleece. And makes cleaning even easier. Just pull both ends of the fabric at the same time (over the toilet) and solids pop right off.
Or maybe it's a food allergy?
Good luck, A. H

Try Gold Bond Baby Powder. That is the only thing that would clear up my son's diaper rash. I tried all the creams and non of them worked. The powder worked though.

Baby Gold Bond powder. I am willing to almost promise you the rash will be gone almost by the next diaper change, but definitely by the next day. Creams have never worked for me, either. Just make sure that you take precautions not to do the powder near baby's face so that they will breathe it in.
Raisins and other dried fruits seemed to be the culprit when my kids were that age.

Our pediatrician recommended Calmoseptine (sold without a prescription - but you do need to ask at the pharmacy). Calmoseptine is a cream that you can apply to soothe babies bum. The Ped also recommended Lantiseptic (much harder to find - typically only hospital pharmacies carry this). Lantiseptic is a barrier....one of the ingredients is beeswax. In order to apply this - you need to warm it first by putting some in your palms and then rubbing your hands together. This product is VERY soothing and works wonders!

my daughter has very sensitive skin and gets rash often on her bottom and on her face. I have found that vitamin E oil works great. You can buy it in liquid form in the vitamin isle. and then I usually put just a little powder over it to keep out the moisture

One of my friend's sons had the same problem until she switched to specific kind of pampers wipes (I think they were the ones with aloe, but I can't remember). There was something in all of the other wipes she tried that caused him to have an allergic reaction. As soon as she switched (he was about two at the time that this happened) he no longer had a problem.
Diaper rash, in general, can also be a sign of allergy. Not just to wipes but to food too... if it doesn't go away soon and he has changed his eating (added anything new?) it might be a symptom of an allergy.

Hi H.,
You need to go to the nearest pharmacy and ask for "calmoseptine". The pharmacy should have it behind the counter and if they don't they'll usually order it for you. It is like $7.00, but worth it. My son had a rash from his diaper that wouldn't go away and our nurse recommended this. It works great. The rash is finally completely gone. Let me know if you have any problems finding this. I had to go to 3 different pharmacies before I found it. GOOD LUCK!

Hi H.! My ped. once told me to use Neosporan along w/Desitin when my daughter had a diaper rash that wouldn't go away. The doc said that sometimes diaper rashes get infected and thats why they don't go away quickly. If its infected, the neosporan will clear it up.
Also - stay away from wipes for a couple days and use a warm wash cloth instead. Wipes irritate the rash.
Lastly, my doctor told me with my son, who is now 3, that when toddlers get older, their urine is more acidic, mostly caused by the foods and drinks they have, but also due to their digestive systems working differently. That sounds crazy, but when you think about it, it really makes sense! Please let us know what worked out for you! I'm curious to know!!!!

Hi H.,
My son had the same problem starting at about 10 months. If you haven't tried changing diaper brands yet I would do that. My son wore Pampers from the day he was born and then all of a sudden broke out in hives/rash from head to toe but not under the diaper. I happen to pick up Huggies because they had a new fit and the hives/rash were gone. I even put him back in the Pampers the next month and he immediately broke back out until I realized the rash had been gone for the month that he was wearing the Huggies.
You can see testimonials from people who have used it, along with photos of her daughter before and after.
It works for diaper rash! :)

Dear H.,
I sell diaper rash cream that has some amazing results! It is botanical with harmful chemicals and I have found it to be the best product out there. It cost $12.50. As a matter of fact, I have a 7 month old girl who has recovered beautifully from this product if you need a personal testimonial.
If you want more info.please email me back and we will talk.

Hi H. --
My son is only 4 months old, but was getting diaper rash no matter what I did. I got some ABC Diaper rash cream from Arbonne (my Mom sells it) and that worked great - all natural ingredients. I make sure to dry his bottom completely before applying and I use it regularly as a preventative measure. Once I broke the cycle, I didn't have to apply with every diaper change ( his diaper rash was not yeast related...). Hope that helps!

Hello! Have you tried a product called "Butt Paste"? You can buy it at Wal-Mart, Target and several other stores. I swear by it. Also, have you tried switching brands of diapers? What about laundry detergent? Just wondering because I have had to change some of these things as my daughter got older. I hope this helps!

Ok this sounds strange but go to the pharmacy and buy Calmoseptine. It's behind the counter but no prescription needed. The secret is to dry you child's bottom off completely with a hair dryer(cool or warm air) and then apply a very thin layer of this product. It worked wonders for us. My dtr had horrible diaper rash. Just keep the hair dryer handy. It was a great tip from my pediatrician..

My daughter was younger when she was having the problem, but I was told not to use wipes at all. I used the square cottons dipped in a little soapy water, then rinsed with clear water. Also, I am not sure where you live, but there is a small pharmacy in Fenton that sells homemade diaper rash cream that is very inexpensive, and that worked wonders!

Have you tried different diapers or wipes? (even if he was okay with them before, he can develop allergies) My son gets horribly red if we use luv's wips, luv's diapers, or huggies diapers. But he can use huggies wipes and pampers diapers. The creams don't help him much if I keep using the wrong wipes or diapers. The best wipes I found out there are the Meijer brand - fragrance free, alcohal free, hypoallergenic... and they're the cheapest too! I also have cloth diapers, so when I was trying to figure this all out, I'd put a cloth diaper on him during the day and so he'd have relief between the trials. :(
I hope you find out the cause!!

Yes. My son had a similar incident -- you feel so bad for them with their sore bottom. I finally, out of frustration, went to our pediatrician to check it out. It turns out it was a yeast-type infection. The doctor gave us a prescription for a topical ointment and it was gone in two days! I'd say check with your doctor at this point. Good luck.

Try good old cornstarch.
If he's on an antibotics it may be a yeast infection. My son had a horrible rash and my doctor suggested using any type of cream for a yeast infection (Monastat). I did and it cleared up and I started using cornstarch and haven't had any problems since and I think I tried every type of diaper rash cream they make and the cornstarch seems to work the best.

My oldest son did this threw teething it was never ending with the rashes his little rump was always red and sore. I know this sounds kinda silly but we would use "Bag Balm" you can purchase this at any pharmacy it comes in a little green tin and has a picture of a cow utters on it. Its antiseptic too so it will help ease any pain or infection that might arise, my grandmother told me to give it a try and cleared him up with in a week. And be sure to keep him changed often as soon as he wets himself do not let him sit in for to long keep him as dry as possible. The best of Luck to you.

With it getting warmer out, I think you should let him/her be naked when you are at home. Letting the rash air out will help, and maybe you could even try potty training (i found it easier to potty train both my kids by letting them be naked, made it easier for them) I would also see his doctor and see what he suggests for a cream. Good luck!!

When my daughter was a baby, she constantly had diaper rashes. It turned out to be from a yeast infection. If your son's rash gets worse when you use cornstarch on his bottom, that's an indication it could be from yeast. The yeast feeds on the cornstarch, ,and the rash gets worse. Her pediatrician prescribed a cream (Nystatin) and the rash cleared right up.

I used a mixture of A&D Ointment, and Balmex on my sons very nasty rash a while back, and it cleared it up in no time. I would just mix equal parts of the two on the back of my hand then apply it.
When I worked in a day care, we used to use Johnson's No more Rash Cream, and it usually brought the rash down considerably, if not all together, within one to two applications.

Hey H.,
Try this and let me know, my son had a chronic ear infections & gastrointestional problems as a toddler, that often lead to diarhea, (chronic) and very bad diaper rash(chronic). That is until someone told me about what there grandma said to use. The cure all to end of was pure corn starch, not the powder, just buy a box of corn starch. After your baby has been bathe and dried off really good, dust a lil corn starch in the area and watch how well it will dry it up.
The air does help to when u can leave the diaper off. I hope this will help your child, please let me know how the corn starch works, it may take a day or a few days but it was a lifesaver for my son, my husband and myself. Good Luck!

We use Earth Mama Angel Baby Baby Bottom Balm. You can get it online http://www.earthmamaangelbaby.com/ or at some health food stores. It's different from most other diaper rash creams because it doesn't have zinc oxide. Every time my daughter starts to get a rash anywhere on her body, we use it and it clears right up. Also, if by any chance you're still breastfeeding- try breastmilk, it's supposed to be great for diaper rash as long as it isn't yeast related.
Hope you find something that helps!

Have you talked to his pediatrician? My daughter had the same problem. It ended up being a rash caused by yeast (happens fairly often after a child has an antibiotic)Which is why none of the treatments for normal diaper rash didn't work. My daughters pediatricain prescribed plain nystatin cream. If his rash gets worse or stays the same with diaper rash cream but gets a little better if you leave it dry or just use powder it's a god chance it's the yeast. I'd take him to the doctor. Well, good luck, hope I helped.

I always wash my 2 year old son's butt with regular soap, Dove or Irish spring.(Instead of the baby wash) After, I dry really well and play "PUFF PUFF" with Johnson and Johnson's powder. We make a game out of spilling powder on his butt and "Bo-Bos" and rubbin it in. He NEVER has any kind of rash. Ever. Either I have been extremely fortunate or stumbled on the cure. My husband says I WASTE powder, but I am not going to change a thing. It works for us. Hope you find something that works for you. Good Luck!

My 1 year old daughter went through this last month. She had a rash that nothing would take care of. I tried everything also. I think I figured out that it was her diaper. Our store had a really good sale on Pamper's Cruisers so that is what I bought. We usually use Huggies. When the Pampers were gone out of her diaper stacker, my husband put Huggies in it and her rash was gone in about 2 days. I have heard from a few people that since Pamper's put a mesh like liner thing in the crusiers that it has caused rashes.
