So What Happened?

Thanks for all the great feedback. Unfortunately, the pediatricians that got the most recommendations (Drs. Roberts, Benzick & Zwernemann) only take new patients if they are babies they see in the hospital. Good to know for future reference though! We decided to try Dr. Johnson at Southlake Family Medicine.

We use Dr. Pierre Robert at Baylor Medical in Grapevine. He is flexible with vaccinations, if that is important to you. We really like him.

Dr. Erica Zwernaman at Southlake Family Medicine is AMAZING!! So thorough and spent a lot of time with us - making sure she knew everything about my girls. She didn't just rush in and out with pat medical answers. I personally like having a woman for my growing girls (8 & 5). She was GREAT! I highly recommend her!

p.s. I used to go to Dr. Pierre Robert in Grapevine - I did really like him but good luck getting in for an appt, especially when your kids are sick! You'll mostly likely see the PA, who is not bad at all - but I wanted someone accesible.

I took the advice of some people and tried a pedi, but wasn't happy. I stayed there for almost 2 years and every time left saying "I really need to change!" Well, when I got pregnant with #3, I knew I had to find a new pedi. I'm now with Dr. Arca. She's located on Willam D Tate close to Hall Johnson with Cook Children's in Grapevine. I love that the staff is great, she takes her time talking to you and I never feel like she's rushing to get to the next person. The wait is usually around 10-15 minutes, but if it's longer, I don't mind b/c I know she's just taking care of someone and giving them the time they need. The staff is kind and polite and it's just a great office, I've been so pleased that I almost don't want to recommend her so she doesn't get too busy!!!

Southlake family Medicine has several really great pediatricians...Dr. Benzick, Dr. Johnson, & Dr. Zornaman (sp?). We have been going to see Dr. Benzick for the last 4 years and love him! We have also had both the other pediatricians on sick appts and liked them both very much. I have also heard Dr. Robert and Dr. Scott in the Baylor Medical Plaza are great too. I am a pediatric occupational therapist and have worked with MANY peds in the area and the ones I named have all seemed great, from my experience working with them and from patient reports!

**One thing I will mention is Southlake Family Medicine (Dr. Benzick's office) does not charge any fees for calling a nurse. I noticed someone said their Dr.s office charged $10 for afterhours or nurse calls...I think that is something to think about. You shouldn't have to pay to call and ask for advice!

My three have been going to Dr. Benzick since they were born. Dr. Benzick is at Southlake Family Medical and they are part of Baylor Grapevine Hospital. Thier number is ###-###-####. My kids love Dr. Benzick because he talks to them not at them. He has a wonderful bedside manner and spends time with them to make sure all is right. He was the one who noticed Gabe's autism and pointed us in all the right directions. Nurse Judy is wonderful and so sweet and the staff is great. Our insurance company has not been paying claims here lately and the doctors ofice called us to work with us. We were able to contact the insurance company and things worked out great thanks to all the help we received from the staff at Dr. Benzicks office. If for some reason you can not get in with him the other one my kids have seen for an emergency is Dr. Zordamman. She is great and also a mom so she is very understanding as well and works with the kids great.

Absolutely has to be Dr. Robert at Grapevine Pediatrics (attached to the Baylor Grapevine hospital). Every time we go he makes me feel like my baby is his favorite patient. And he never makes me feel stupid for asking questions, and is very supportive of any concerns I have. He has daily call-in hours from 8:30AM-9:00AM when you can talk directly to him. Outside those hours a nurse always promptly returns my calls. After business hours, you can call the 24-hour triage nurse for a small charge (I think $10). Just recently my baby was sick for the first time with fever...at 2:30PM they were still able to get me into the office to see the doctor at 4:30PM. Baby was fine, I mostly need reassurance everything was A-OK. Gosh he is just so sweet, very well-mannered and proper. His wife is an OB/GYN at the same office as my OB/GYN. If I could change one thing it would be that the office have a well-patient side separate from the sick-patient side (I've heard some offices do so). Let me know if you have any other specific questions. You will not be disappointed with Dr. Robert.

Hands down Dr. Pierre Robert. I have used him with all of my babies (3). I wish that I could go to him. He's very patient, calming, tries letting the body do its job before giving medicine. His staff is awesome...the RN who calls back, Bridgett, takes no longer than 20-30 mins before she has called you back...can't sing their praises enough.

Good Luck!

AP -

I take my kids to Clinical Pediatrics of North Texas...Dr. Nannette Crow is our regular pediatrician, but she has been out on leave. In the interim, we have been seeing Dr. Tran, also with the practice. I have been with them for three years and love them! They are prompt in returning phone calls and I have never waited to get a sick child in. I also like the fact that I don't feel rushed to get in and get out. The doctors (I have seen all but Dr. Dickey) are patient with parents and are thorough in answering questions. Give them a try - I am sure you'll like them.

They are on Northwest Highway (by the Tom Thumb) in Grapevine and their number is ###-###-####. They also have an Irving location.

Best wishes!
E.

We absolutely love, love, love our pediatrician, Dr. Benzick at Southlake Family medicine. I saw another response who had mentioned Dr. Erica Zwernemann. She is also at Southlake Family medicine, and we have seen her before when Dr. Benzick was unavailable. She was great, too. I don't think you could wrong there. The staff is caring and wonderful. Dr. Benzick is thorough, friendly, great with the kids, and you can tell he loves kids and his job. Nurse Judy just rocks there, too.

We also use Dr. Pierre Robert in Grapevine ###-###-####. He has been great with my son and never makes me feel rushed. He's very experienced (I belive a second or third generation pediatrican). Nurses are extremely caring, helpful and quick with call backs on questions. He is part of Baylor Grapevine and also has privileges at Cook's Children's Hospital. Unfortunately, there is no separation between sick and well kids, but it hasn't posed a serious problem for us...
Good luck!

I agree with the others, Southlake Family Medicine is hands down one of the best offices in the area! We've been using them for just over 4 years and have never had any problems. We've NEVER not been able to get an appt same day for anything urgent. My 3yr old has bad allergies and asthma so we are there sometimes 3x's a week. On call Dr's are always wonderful, the nurses, staff all around a great office and easily located. I've never had a single Dr there rush us, they spend time and listen..I've had some in others offices that didn't..
We've used Dr O'brien as our main pedi but have seen almost every Dr in the pracitce since we're there so much. Someone else mentioned Dr Zwernaman, she is WONDERDFUL. We always ask for her if ours isn't available. Her husband is actually an ob/gyn near Harris Ft Worth that I use..he's great too : )

We go to Dr. Michael McCoy at Practical Pediatrics. He is great with my 8 month old. I too am a first time mom and I also am a SAHM. He has given us great advice so far and it hasn't been anything but practical. For example, we put her into her crib in her room at 2 weeks old and we didn't have any difficulty transitioning her to sleep on her own. She knows how to soothe herself to sleep. He does staggered/ delayed vaccinations too. His nurses are great as if my baby needs to get two shots, there are two nurses that will administer the shots simulataneously in each thigh so she won't know what to expect. They are very gentle too. He does charge $10.00 for after hour phone calls and only works a half day on Wednesdays. They don't answer their phones directly but instead call you back from your message. They are very prompt though. My daughter was pulling on her ear and I called in the morning and was able to get an appointment for that afternoon. Sometimes you half to wait in the waiting room for your appointment though- especially when she is sick and they made room for an appointment. Good luck.
