My Pediatrician has recommended a Ped. surgeon for my 3 1/2 year old daughter that is in Loyola. Does anyone recommend a closer option in the southwest suburbs (prefer Joliet area if possible)?
My daughter has umbilical hernia and a resistance to pooping or passing gas. She is currently on Miralax (using for the last couple of months) so she does not hold it in, but now she is getting to the point where she does not want to pass gas either. According to the Ped from a few months ago, she has no noticable obstruction so he believes it maybe psychological. But because she is now resisting passing gas, I wonder if it could be something more. Anyone else going through this?

we went to Dr. Liu at Edwards Hospital, but that was for a cyst removal. I know he was doing surgery of other sorts on the day he did our daughter's. Edwards was GREAT for the surgery, both our daughters had surgery there this summer.
My daughter had surgery as a baby. We used Dr. Deborah Loeff and were very pleased. She is at Hope Children's Hospital in Oak Lawn but it is not as bad as driving to Chicago and you can get there without going on the interstate if that is an issue. Good Luck!
My grand daughter has these same symptoms. Her parents took her to multiple doctors and had multiple tests. Finally, at Children's memorial in Chicago, she was diagnosed as fructose intolerant-she's missing an enzyme that processes fructose. Therefore if she has anything with fructose in it, she experiences great stomach pain and gas. We don't give her any fruit. We read lots of lables because you'd be surprised at all the things that have fructose in them.

I don't know of a surgeon, but have you checked at the new Childrens Memorial through Silver Cross? It is located off rt 6 near 355. I know it recently opened, might be a great option for you. Good luck!
