One of my twins has reflux and crys 75% of the day. I took him to see a doctor on Friday because I believe he may be in pain. She believes he has reflux (but him on baby Zantac), switched is formula (again), and think he may be eating too much (he's 14 weeks and weights 10lbs???). I think there my be something more severe with him, so I'm going to take him to a Pediatric GI doctor. Any referrals would be great! Thank you in advance!

So What Happened?

It took me crying on the phone to the nurse at Children's Mercy in order to get my son in before the end of August. They finally agreed to see me yesterday. I saw Dr. Hodges and I wasn't that impressed with him. At any rate, my baby does have severe reflux and a sensitivity to proteins found in formula. He is now on the Similac Alimentum! It's insanely expensive, but it does seem to be helping already. He is on Axid which is a form a Zantac and will probably be switched over to Previcid soon. Thanks for all the advice!!!!

I took my son to Children's Mercy South GI clinic. I don't remember the doctors name but I love them. Also my son's pedatrician is wonderful. We switched to him because my son had been spitting up since he was born. They had already tried numerous reflux medications and nothing worked. My son also had stridor and needed a nebulizer. On our first appointment we got one to take home, he set him up to get tubes (he had an ear infection for almost 9 months) and refered me to a GI doctor. They are great. The name of the office is Kansas City Pediatrics. The wait is never long and they are great with the kids. You might also see some chiefs players because that is where they take their kids.

i don't have any good pediatric gi doctors, the one i saw was rude and dismissive, but we switched our son to similac isomil advance soy formula, and it helped him greatly. it turned out that he also had a slight milk allergy. it made a world of difference for us. dont dismiss the thought just because milk allergies dont run in your family, they don 't in ours either. good luck!

First, Children's Mercy is the best- hands down! I love Charlie Roberts in the GI dept, although you really can't go wrong down there. I'm not sure if you need a referral from your general pediatrician to see them or not. The main number for the hospital is ###-###-####. In my son's experince with reflux, it was lots of trial and error to see which meds worked with what formula. Good luck!

Hello J.,
I don't have a doctor to recommend but am going through the same issue w/ my one baby (8wks). It is very hard to deal with; it just tears at your heart strings! I also am a first time mother & at first the doctor somewhat made me feel like the baby is doing what babies do but I am now finally getting the issue addressed. I am in the Olathe area & curious what area you are in/who your doctor is. I can't say that I am that please with ours. I can only imagine how limited your time is but if you have a second to email me, my email address is ____@____.com, if you're in the Olathe area & would like, maybe we could meet sometime. I am currently looking for an infant play group or mothers club. It is very nice especially as a first time mother to have other mothers to talk to!
Good luck w/ everything!

My daughter sees Dr. Daniels at Childrens Mercy. He is GREAT as well as patient. He spoke with me about concerns I had and gave me several options as to how we could treat my daughter. His nursing staff was very informed, helpful with everything and always returned calls promptly. Best of luck to you.

I'd have your doctor see if they will write a referal foryou to take your son to the GI clinic at Children's Mercy Hopital. My son whos 7 has suffered from mirganes since he was about 9 months old, at one point when he was in the hopsital the GI team saw him and ran soem tests they were very friendly and helpful. We've actaully been to a number of the clinics at Children's and I've been pleased with every single one of them.
