It's all sugar. Why would you give it to him? Breastfeeding is the best thing you can do for him. Don't doubt that!

My son never had any issues with it. He had 1-2 a day (depending on how well he ate) for awhile. I think we did Pediasure (or Boost kid essentials) for about a year while he was on soy milk (couldn't handle whole milk for that first yr (from 1-2yrs). I think we stopped Pediasure when he was around 2 and was tolerating whole milk. He's now on 2% like the rest of us. He's still little and still a picky eater, but the size is hereditary as we are not big people and he eats pretty good from time to time. He's also on a multivitamin. But he eats what he eats - he wont let himself starve!
BTW, I agree with the previous poster, as long as he's eating sufficiently still, then I wouldn't worry. And as long as he's not getting overweight (I'm assuming he's underweight if he's on Pediasure). You want them to gain wt or atleast maintain, but don't let the Pediasure be a large source of his calories unless he' not eating enough and the doctor has advised you to give him this much Pediasure.

Please educate yourself. Read the label. Find out what you are willing to put in your babies body. As a Family Success Coach, it is not a product that I recommend.
Healthy is easy. You made the first step, asking for help. Get the education you and you will get the results. Many of my clients supplement with this www.BestBreakfastEver.com.

A., please learn how to read labels, learn how to ask the right questions. Talk to people EDUCATED in wellness, not sickness.

I think that's a conversation to have with your pediatrician. If the doctor put your son on Pediasure for a reason, then why not revisit his progress to see if he still needs it. Your breastmilk is the best source of nutrition, along with the fruits, veggies and cereals you mention, and your milk adjusts to your baby's needs. If you don't need to give your child Pediasure for medical reasons, then I would keep nursing and offering him healthy foods like you're doing :)

keep it limited to when he is dehydrated from being sick. It is not an everyday drink, and high in sugars. Personally, at 13 months I did watered down juice and milk with ovaltine (ovaltine only once a day--and only 1 teaspoon for a cup).

Hi A.---Pediasure is not a healthy alternative to an optimal diet. It is mostly sugar and fat and the isolated nutrients found in it do NOT contribute to good health. Nutritients must come from whole food, otherwise they cause an imbalance in the body which can lead to disease processes as he ages.

A better idea would be to make your own smoothies with organic rice or soy, a high quality soy or rice protein powder and whatever fruits, veggies or nuts and seeds you choose to put in it. Avoid powders with milk products as diary is a leading cause of many health issues. To learn more, please visit www.pcrm.org, www.strongbones.org and www.notmilk.com.

I have lots of ideas for you if you'd like to learn more about how to optimize your family's diet. I am taking a series of classes taught by a Naturopath who has her PhD in Nutrition. Her advice is based on long-term research and she backs everything she says with references to that research.

Hope this helps. Be sure to let me know if you have any additional questions. In health, D.

my son is 15 months and has been low weight for some time. his nutritionist has told us to give him pediasure to help boost his calories. the only reason people are against it is because it is such high calories sometimes kids dont want to eat regular food because they are full. as long as your son is eating other food too. pediasure is good because it does have a lot of vitamins and stuff..
