OK, lately I keep hearing more and more about women that are pregnant that eat peanut butter are risking their unborn to develop peanut allergies. Now, I really don't believe this...but I still have in the back of my mind "what if?"

I have been eating alot of PB...PB&J, PB & Apples, PB on a spoon...it is my craving for the past few weeks.

Any insight to this?? I have a few friends that have little ones that have a peanut allergy and I would really like to avoid it if at all possible! :)

What can I do next?

I love peanut butter and have had 3 kids. I ate lots of it during all 3 pregnancies and while breast feeding. The first two have no peanut allergies and the 3rd is only 7 months so we will see, but I don't anticipate any problem.

Good luck and enjoy your peanut butter!

I love peanut butter and ate it during both my pregnancies. I gave my son pb when he was 10 or 11 months old and he had an allergic reaction. I tried again at 18 months and he was fine and has been eating it ever since. With my second child, I didn't introduce pb until 18 months and she has never had a problem.

Well hmm...I dont know what to tell you--I craved peanut buetter a lot when I was pregnant and ate it...and to my knowledge neither of the girls have peanut allergies...of course I have one with a skin disorder that we have to be careful with nuts anyway, so I dont know just yet since I havent given PB to them...I had not heard of that causing an allergy though...I hope someone else can provide some insight!

I think that the link between eating peanuts/peanut products during pregnancy and the rise in peanut allergies is a theory. I don't believe that enough research (or any research) has been done to prove that. From the way I read it, experts were trying to figure out why peanut allergies in children are on the rise, and the logical explanation to them seemed to be to blame the mother!

I ate peanuts and peanut butter throughout both of my pregnancies. My daughter now eats peanut butter all the time--no allergy for her. However, my son is 14 months and has some other types of allergies and skin problems, so I haven't given him peanut butter or nut-flavored foods yet just to be safe. If he does end up w/a peanut allergy, I don't think it's because of what I ate while pregnant w/him. I think it'll be more related to the fact that he's more suseptible to allergies in general.

I ate PB throughout my pregnancy (I would have died from starvation at a very early age if not for PB, it's the only thing I ate when I was little!) and no problems except it would occasionally give me heartburn. My son has no problems at all. We gave him PB around his first birthday and still no problems. We both have seasonal allergies and so does he, so I'm not sure that makes one more susceptible to food allergies or not, but not in our case. Good luck!

I did a lot of research on peanut allergies recently because my son turned 1 and I was trying to decide if I should let him eat peanuts yet, or wait. This is what I recall. It's okay to eat PB when you're pregnant. Don't give your child any nut products until he's at least 2, the younger their immune system is when they are first introduced the higher the probability of becoming allergic. Allergies run in families, although not necessarily for the same things...one may be allergic to soy another to rasberries etc. If allergies run in your family it's probably better not to eat a lot of PB while pregnant, although I don't think the link has been proven. If allergies don't run in your (or your husband's) family then eat all the PB you want. Anyway's, I think that's what it boiled down to. Congratulations !!! Babies are the best thing ever :)
