Peanut Butter - Plymouth Meeting,PA

Anyone else out there have a three 1/2 year old who doesn't like peanut butter? I am growing weary of sending him to daycare with pumpkin butter or apple butter sandwichs. He loves both but they are glorified jelly, really, and I would like him to get some protein in there. Any good sandwich suggestions?

What can I do next?

yay to almond butter! Cashew butter is good too. By pumpkin butter do you mean the creamy sweet stuff? There is pumpkin seed butter which is green in color usually and is amazing for you- lotsa omegas and vitas. Or else try a protein fortified bread or wrap, sneaky sneaky...

My granddaughter is just finishing kindergarten, and has taken a peanut butter sandwich every day. They let her buy lunch once a week until they found out she was buying peanut butter sandwiches! If it's good for him, and he likes it, ride it out. Maybe slip a slice of cheese or banana on it instead of jelly if you're worried about sugar. Kids go through phases, don't worry. At least he doesn't want Cheerios 3 meals a day!

Our preschool doesn't allow nuts of any kind, so peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are not even an option. My son ate ham, turkey, or bologna and cheese most days. Sometimes it was a sandwich, and sometimes a roll-up. If we had leftover mac & cheese or something like that, I'd put that in a thermos for him. My sister just sent snack-like stuff because her kids were picky. Things like crackers, cheese, fruit, goldfish, yogurt, etc. I'm sure you'll be able to find lots of things that don't require peanut butter. If nothing else, you could always just sent some cheese with the regular sandwiches you send, because cheese does provide some protein.

My son doesn't like it either.... we have 3 choices: bologna with mustard, cheese with mustard, and both together.... it does get boring, but I want him to eat! I don't feel bad about giving the same sandwich every day, there are kids there that eat Ramon noodles every day - yuk!

I'm sure others have posted this info, but we've used almond butter for years and my 2yo loves it. Once in a while, we'll let him have Nutella. You could also have him help 'design' sandwiches one weekend, doing cheese & lettuce, cheese & apple, meat & pickle, or other things not tried yet.

Good luck!

My daughter never liked peanut butter. She's 15 and still doesn't eat it.

If you need to send a sandwich, whats wrong with traditional lunchmeats or cheese? You could also use leftovers like chicken or roast beef. Not too many kids like eggs, but what about egg salad?

Why not forget the sandwich? Send a selection of healthy foods. Cubed meats (use leftovers or if you use deli meats ask them to cut the slices realy thick), cheese or even some peanuts. Maybe a hard boilded egg. Some veggie sticks or fruit. Some crackers. Yogurt is great.

If they don't refrigerate the lunches, buy one of those ice blocks to put in his lunch bag.

we do lunch meat, egg salad, cream cheese and jelly, sometimes even peanut butter and marshmallow fluff as a treat =)

Another thing to try is to roll stuff up in a tortilla and then cut it to make pinwheels, use cream cheese, miracle whip or pb to hold stuff together....little more fun for the kiddos =)

My kids don't really care for peanut butter either. You could try peanut butter and honey. Maybe Cream Cheese and jelly. What about an egg salad sandwich?

My kids like natural almond butter and for a treat sometimes I add grade b organic maple syrup (lots of minerals). Cheese is good too (melted a little so it "sticks together" for school.

Well, we use Sunflower Nut Butter (get at Trader Joes). You can also try Cashew Butter, Almond Butter, and some of the other nut butters, all equally good nut proteins.

Then there's cheese sandwiches (cheese even goes good with some jellies), and cheese is pretty versatile: cheese & jelly, pimento cheese, grilled cheese, pressed panini with cheese.

how about almond butter or cashew butter with jelly or almond butter and banana sandwiches. I know it doesn't sound good but is actually delicious. You could always send a deli meat sandwich with a freezer pack. You could also send a hummus or falafel sandwich.

Daycare are doing away with allowing peanut butter in schools anyway. My son is 6 and still dislikes it.
Cheese sandwiches or chicken salad. Tuna and eggs can be smelly. Even cubed chicken and pasta salad.

What about a tuna fish sandwich? My son LOVES homemade mac-n-cheese. You can put that in a food thermos to keep it hot.
