Never kept peanut butter in the fridge.
If it doesn't say "refridgerate after opening" on the container, then into the pantry it goes - fridge space is like water-front real estate in my house! lol
I always keep my peanut butter in the fridge. Of course I forgot to put it back in yesterday. I asked around and most have said 2 hours like with the rest of foods out of the fridge. No where on the container does it say frigeration needed. I threw it out but I'm wonder what is everyones take on that. Fridge,, no fridge, time out of fridge?
Thank you for all your responses. I don't know, my whole life its always been kept in the fridge. So I just did the same. I even have my DD use to having it cold from the fridge. And yes its hard to spread. Its just regular skippy peanutbutter. I guess the thought was its been opened to the air so you need refrigerate it. I'm going to have to go and try a bit and see how it tastes when its not cold. You all did give me a big smile with some of your answers.. I guess what I do is a little Nutty:p

Get it back out. There's no reason to toss it.
PB doesn't need refrigeration, if it did, millions of kids would DIE everyday after eating their lunch.
Nope, I have never put peanut butter in the fridge. I can't imagine how you would spread it and not tear the bread to pieces. :) I would definitely get it out of the trash.
PB does not need to be refrigerated. Period. Makes it hard to spread for no reason....
I never keep mine in the fridge, I like nice soft peanut butter! I get the natural kind, and I don't ever have problems with oil separation either, just a little stir and it's great! :)
What made you think P. B. needed refrigeration?
I have never kept my peanut butter in the fridge. Why would you keep something in the fridge that does not require refrigeration?
I've never ever put my peanut butter in the fridge. How on earth do you spread it when it's cold???
I have NEVER kept my peanut butter in the fridge....even when it was the fresh made - not a purchased jar from a store....
If the cap was tightly sealed on it - i would personally get it out of the trash and continue to use it!
GOOD LUCK!!
We keep our PB in the cupboard, never in the fridge.
never put it in the fridge.....literally.
We never put it in the fridge and it is fine
I've never stored peanut butter in the fridge. I've never met anyone else that has either. There are a few natural varieties that need to be stored in the fridge or the pb/oil separate but most do not require it.
I never refrigerate my peanut butter and I probably go through only one jar a year, and it is fine to use it
Nope, I'm with the rest of the ladies; never kept the peanut butter in the fridge. Cold PB sounds kinda yucky...
Like others...never ever in the fridge.
I think some say to keep it in the fridge and some don't. I don't keep mine in the fridge. I did once and it was so hard I couldn't even spread it on a sandwich with out ripping the bread. So, take it out of the trash. It's fine
Unless it's an expensive natural kind, you're good. I don't know anyone who puts the regular stuff in the fridge.
I have never put my PB in the fridge! Ha, are you suppose to!??!
I have my peanut butter in the pantry and I buy the big jar so it takes at least a month to use up. I think peanut butter is one of those food staples that never goes bad!

I have never in my entire life put "regular" peanut butter in the fridge. Ever. But my husband started buying that natural peanut butter with the oil on top. That one requires refridgeration.
I dont refrigerate mine, but it's not the kind that needs it. Mine has preservatives in it. Nothing worse than cold, hard peanut butter.
FYI You are not as nutty as you might think. I make my own peanut butter and I keep it in the fridge to keep it from separating the oil from the peanuts. You do this with natural peanut butter you buy in the store. It is only a convenience factor, so I am sure your mother and/or grandmother did it for the same reason if they stored it in the fridge. My mom always heated up our pancake syrup and we all thought you had to until my mom said she just liked it that way because her mom used to make homemade syrup and it was always warm. We learn habits from moms and grandmoms alike :)
Even if you get a natural kind, you don't have to keep it in the fridge. You can just make sure the lid is on tightly, and store it in the cupboard upside down. Keeps the oil from separating.
I NEVER put PB in the fridge. My SIL does and I think its weird.
Out of fridge. No problem. Does not go bad and this way when you need
a quick pick me up you can scoop out a nice big tablespoon of gooey
PB YUM!!!! My absolute favorite!
My great grandmother used to make her own peanut butter (so no preservatives) and never kept it in the fridge.
I have never kept any kind of peanut butter in the fridge either, "natural" or not ... too hard to spread.
Have never had it go bad, and there's no way peanut butter would EVER get thrown out in my house LOL it's like gold here.
Even some natural peanut butters can be left out (I ONLY use natural or organic, some brands can be left out)... ALL un-natural peanut butter does not need to be refrigerated.
To get the best answer to this, call the company.
I have never, ever, ever kept my peanut butter in the fridge. It is not supposed to be refrigerated. It makes the oils in it too condensed and makes it hard.
I googled it and 99% of what I read said it lasts about 2 months out of the fridge. If it is natural PB with no preservatives then it should be kept in the fridge. Otherwise it's to be kept and used at room temperature.

If you want to refrigerate your PB then feel free to do so but also know that most people don't and that if it's left out for days and days and days it's still good and you can put it right back in the fridge and still eat it.
I have never refrigerated peanut butter in my life. Ever. I can have the same jar for months and still use it, straight from the cabinet...although lately, I've been going through the peanut butter like crazy!!
I've never kept mine in the fridge, as I don't like the consistency of cold peanut butter, and trying to spread it on soft bread is a messy nightmare. You don't need to refrigerate it. What led you to believe that a nut product would refrigeration?
I have never put mine in the fridge. :-)

I have never kept mine in the fridge. Stays on the shelf in the pantry.
Never had any problems.
I use natural peanut butter and it always stays out on my counter, I never refrigerate it and don't think it needs to be at all. I've been doing that for years and we're all healthy and fine! :-)
If it doesn't say it needs to be refrigerated, it doesn't.
I buy organic peanut butter and it makes it clear it needs to be in the fridge. Mostly natural and organic pb's need to be refrigerated.
I neverput peanut butter in the fridge. That's wierd! I have never even heard of that. :) Maybe it's a Florida thang. :)

You dont refridgate peanut butter, but jam is a must.
I have never refrigerated PB. It's got a very long shelf life, especially if you use a clean knife or spoon to get it out of the jar.
I do not put the peanut butter in the fridge. Ever It does not have any dairy in it. its nuts and oil.
My peanut butter has never been stored anywhere but the pantry, & we've never had a problem with it (we do go through it quickly, but still).
