So about 6 years ago while having trouble concieving our 2 baby, my doctor ran blood test, and ultrasound, and found I had insulin resistant and had PCOS. I was put on metformin & was told as Long as I kept healthy weight I should be fine, but I needed to maintain healthy weight cuz I was high risk for developing type 2 diabetic. Well 2 years ago I had my 2nd son. I now am about 45 lbs over weight. I have always had symptoms of pcos, but always have a period every month. I have not taken metformin since I got pregnant with my 2 year old. For the last few months, I have been getting bad headaches, not feeling well, just kinda yuck, tired, dry mouth, frequent urination, dizzy spells. Today I have had horrible headache, super super bad. I have taken as much tylenol as you can take, & still bad headache. I looked up symptoms of type 2 diabetic, and sounds like I may have symptoms. So anyone out there have this happen? Do you have pcos, insulin resistant and turn into diabetic? Do they do blood work to find out? What were your symptoms? How do they treat it? If you lost weight did you reverse it? Any info would be good. I am going to make appt Monday.

What can I do next?

My friend has insulin resistance diabetes. She found a wonderful doc who basically saved her life. He told her to stop all artificial sweeteners and to eat normal foods but in moderation. Once she stopped using artificial sweeteners she has gone completely off her insulin pump and her blood sugars are almost always normal.

I would say finding the right diabetic doc is the most important thing you can do. The U-5000 (?) med in the insulin pump really worked well when she had the central line in and she had very few health issues during that time. Now she is doing better and not using any meds at all. He is teaching her new ways to manage her body.

You are definitely HIGH risk for diabetes. You need to have your blood sugar checked immediately and not wait. Symptoms like this, going for several months, as you say, could be damaging your organs, especially your eyes and kidneys. You need to have lab work done, and having a bad headache and dizzy spell that isn't going away is a SERIOUS danger sign, there could be swelling in the brain,. Do not put this off, even if it means going to the emergency room for a "headache". You could go into a coma.

With your dry mouth and thirst, what are you drinking??? IF you are using any juices or soda pop, your sugar could be extremely high.

One of my patients, several years ago had these same symptoms that developed in a matter of three weeks, drinking a gallon of orange juice within three days, and when he went to the ER nearly comatose, his blood sugar was 735, was put it the ICU.
He died in a short time, at the age of 27, too much damage was done to reverse the process.

If you don't go to the Dr. before Monday, and Monday is a holiday in most places, so you probably won't find Dr. office open to make an appt. ER's are open 24 hours.

If you are putting off getting checked out, .......(not a good idea). TODAY, go to any drug store or Walmart, buy an Accucheck Monitor (finger stick blood sugar test kit) so you can self test. There are instructions in them on how to use, but will likely only have 10 test strips, the strips are expensive if you buy separately. For Insurance to pay, you must have a prescription. The kit, is over the counter for anywhere from $12 to $25. The strips alone will be over $50, but most of the starter kits will have probably 10 strips. Have a pharmacist help you pick out.

Blood sugar ranges can vary for normal, but for an "average", it should be close to 80 to 110, even to 120. If you are in the 200's or above, go to ER or at least call your Dr and let them know what is going on, you might need to be admitted. IF your blood sugar won't register on the monitor, it may be TOO HIGH TO READ, get a LAB test at the hospital.

Please repost what happens or private message, I am concerned. Too bad if it interferes with your Christmas plans, but better safe than sorry.

Do you have a friend who is diabetic that can test your blood sugar? It really sounds like a diabetic to me. You are risking going into a coma by waiting. Go get tested somehow, someway immediately. Immediately as in within the next hour, not as in sometime today or this weekend, or wait until after Christmas. You may end up in the ICU or worse if it isn't brought down.

I totally agree with Marilyn.

My mother has diabetes. (Due to weight and life habits.) Her diabetes Dr. told her that losing weight ALWAYS helps this type of diabetes, when weight is a cause.
