Paying Almost the Same Amount as I Make Monthly for Daycare

I am bringing home about $100 bucks at the end of the month after i pay for daycare. If I quit my job to stay home with the kids instead of paying for someone else to watch them, would I be able to qualify for unemployment since its sort of a hardship case? anyone with prior experience let me know..Doesnt make sense to me to keep working just to pay for someone else to watch them. Thanks in advance.

UPDATE:I am not trying to "just stay home with the kids" my mom has helped me with them since they were 4 months old so I could work to help make ends meet. She has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is no longer able to watch them due to surgeries and chemo/radiation.. which is why I am now finding out that all my pay is going to daycare..

What can I do next?

imsorry sorry for being offended. sometimes things on here get taken out of context. i understand your dilema. no you probably wouldnt get unemployment benefits ifyou quit. it is only for peopel that have lots their jobs through no fault of their own such as a layoff. then its like youre taking money form them personally. you have to go out and do at least 10 job applications a week, they want you to get back to work. if you qre a single parent you may qualify for food stamps and afdc. afdc is like a few hundeddollars but then they go after the father and try to collect wha tthey are giving you from him. you may also qualify for food stamps and maybe rent payments with section 8 but all that takes a lot of time and document filling, it harldy seems worth it at the time. you may ask for help wiht paying your baby sitter. they did that for me when i was going to college. hang in there

Hi, L.. My friend Jenny Spielman referred me to you. Perhaps I can help you with your dilemna in earning a few extra dollars while you have fun at the same time, AND you get to stay home with your children. L., I used to sell cosmetics for the "pink Cadillac" company for 8 years. About 16 months ago, I was introduced to Cookie Lee jewelry and I have enjoyed it sooooo much more, that I would love to share information with you. I've had more success with Cookie Lee, more fun, less stress and pressure, no quota's to keep my 50% commission and there are no hidden costs. I earn my money by doing home shows, office shows, FUNdraisers, public events, and selling to just about anyone, anywhere. You are welcome to call me at ###-###-#### or email me at ____@____.com and I promise you that I'll answer all your questions openly and honestly. Before I decided to move over to Cookie Lee, I literally "grilled" my sponsor for over an hour. I made it very clear that I didn't like surprises that had a negative impact on my wallet....most people don't. I hope this information helps. And if ever you would like a tour of our showroom, it's in Phoenix and they do have daycare provided we give them 24 hours notice...the ladies who work at the showroom are all wonderful. Take care, L., and I hope to hear from you. Best Wishes, D.

Maybe you can find a cheaper daycare. Or...go to school. If you are in school you sometimes qualify for more help with daycare and get an education in the end. Then you can actually make money when you leave the house. Try community college. They are much cheaper and have advisors that are so helpful. There are grants that help with living expences and such. I hope all turns out well for you.

I completely see where you're coming from. First, let me say that I'm sorry about your Mom. Mine is much in the same situation, although her breast cancer spread to her bones a few years ago. I can give you some information on alternative therapies for your Mom if she's ever interested in that (regardless of whether she's on chemo or not).

Anyhow, back to your original question. Although you won't be able to receive unemployment, there are helpful programs out there to enable you to raise your own children rather than having to place them in daycare.
The fact that you're only taking home 100 dollars after daycare costs, shows that the job you're in is most definitely not worth losing precious time with your children. I'm guessing that if you're not already receiving some form of help (as you can't live off of 100 dollars) to live on your own, that you're possibly living with your Mom... if you are (living with your Mom) and are also caring for her due to her illness, there are also programs that will compensate you for that.
Here's a website with information on who you'd ask a few questions to regarding that...http://www.homecarefiles.org/Family-Cargiver-State-Contac...

Good luck to you and your family.
Your mother is in my prayers.

Sorry to hear about your mom. Our family is going through the gamit of health issues. It is hard trying to help and still provide for your family.

I would start doing some research on daycare. I did alot when I was finding one for my son 2 days a week for preschool. I dont know where you are at if you are in Tucson the Family Life Academy Preschool is a very nice place they have wonderful loving teachers and staff. They offer discounts for additional children and they keep their cost fairly low.

Is there any friends you have that are SAHMs looking to make any extra bucks? My friend is going back to school and she asked me if I would like to make a little extra money watching her girls.

Hi L., I am sorry for some of the rude comments you received. It's easier for other people to make judgements when they are not in your shoes, and from behind a keyboard...
You probably would qualify for Child Care Assistance through the state. It doesn't take long to go through the channels, just find out if your daycare accepts DES, and if not, there are lots of good ones that do. My daughter has been at Sunrise in Mesa since she was less than a year old and at the beginning my fees were as low as $1/day. I was waitressing and didn't bring in lots of money either. It's not a handout, it's for those of us in need. Your rates will increase as your income increases, you have reviews every so often, but it's not terribly inconvenient.
Please don't let anyone get you down, you are a wonderful person! Keep your head up, things will get better! We all struggle at times, some more than others.

Hi L.,
I know where you are coming from I too was spending most of my paycheck on daycare and I found a night job which has helped a lot. That may be something you want to look into if you have a spouse, family member or friend that can keep an eye on the little ones while they are sleeping. Thanks to my new schedule I get to spend time with my son and even though it is tiring it is also very rewarding, emotionally and economically.

L.,

Why not start selling Avon. It only costs $10 to get started and it pretty much sells itself. You could take the kids out for a walk and deliver books around to your neighbors to help start getting customers. You could also give books to friends and realtives. Hope to hear from you soon about this. You can email me at ____@____.com

Please let me know when I can meet up with you and get you started.

Thanks,
L. Chase

Like the other poster said, "No, you would not be able to get unemployment." It is set up for those that lost their job and it was beyond their control.

However, you may have a few options.
1. Stay home and reap the benefits of doing so. It is HARD financially for me to stay home, but so worth the benefits. We save by not eating out, only shopping clearance, using coupons, not having expensive tvs etc.

2. Continue working, but find a cheaper daycare or one that will give you a larger discount. There are many women out there trying to just make some money to keep their family afloat and they may be able to help you by charging you less.

3. Find a new job that pays just a little bit more or that offers some sort of childcare reimbursement. A friend of mine works for Bank of America and receives a good portion off of her childcare as a benefit.

4. Stay at home with your children and watch a few other children. You can make $1000 a month watching just two children. You can charge less and probably get children faster.

Where are you located in Mesa? I am starting my home daycare back up in Mesa and I will be watching a sibling group starting in March. I am willing to give you a good rate if it might help you out a bit, but I would kind of need to know what you are WILLING to pay. Best wishes-I know what you are going through. I have stayed home for the past five years because I just knew that paying for daycare would be a hardship for us. I am sorry people have to voice their opinions instead of offering practical advice that you can actually use.
