Well I have a great plan to take my husband on a cruise for his 40th bday in March. This will come as a complete suprise to him. We don't have passports so I was wondering does anyone know how long it normally takes to get them processed? I am planning on giving this to him Christmas even though his bday is in March so he can take time off and have time to get his passport. Will that be enough time?

Also anyone taken a Carnival cruise out of Galveston lately?

What can I do next?

I would get the passports as soon as you possibly can, just in case they get really backed up. Things are alot better now than they were, so it may not take as long. However, you don't want to be left hanging.

Go to Carnival's website and look at their current information about cruises going out of Galveston. Last time I looked, they were still going out of the Port of Houston since Galveston was not operational. I highly recommend using Sandy at Cruise Holidays of Arrowhead as a cruise agent. It costs you nothing and she knows what she's talking about. Her number is 888-896-1199. Tell her B. Walker P. sent you. Thanks and Good luck!!! B.

We have taken 4 cruises out of Galveston and have one coming in December, they are my girls favorite vacation.
Plan on 6-8 weeks for passports, the sooner the better.
Feel free to email me and questions, we take a cruise a year

I would recommend you pay extra and have your passports expedited. It's a small amount of money in terms of the risk of missing your trip. W

ay back when they changed the law, requiring them for travel to Mexico, Canada, etc., folks experienced backlogs of months. It's really hard to know if they won't do something like mandate all citizens get passports. So, I don't recommend taking the risk.

All the forms are avaiable online, with complete instructions. Basically, you can overnite your applications and if you include an extra overnite envelope, they'll return them that way. BUT, you must sign for them in my experience. So, if you have a little bit of extra time, you could just let them return them via normal mail. Also, you can check your status online.

It truly depends on the time of year-if you are waiting to tell him before you go get your passports you should be okay but don't wait much past Christmas because you could really be cutting it close. Also, there is an option to expedite them but it does cost more-this is just an option if you need it. HTH
