Good morning. My son will be 5 on November 12th and we are having his birthday party at our house. We have a townhome and there will be 8 children (as well as a few parents that are planning to stay as well). We have an open floor plan however with that many people we will be getting close! Anyway - here's the plan - the kids will be making their own pizza - while the pizza is cooking I was planning on the kids playing Twister (4 at a time) and then a Pin the Tail on the Donkey sort of game (however I am going to have a large pic of my son and do Pin the bday Hat on the bday boy). After eating pizza I am going to have the kids decorate their own cupcakes. Depending on how much time is left for openning presents we may do one more game - was thinking like a bucket/ball game (like the Bozo game). For the parents I am going to make a large sub sandwhich and serve chips and fruit salad.

I guess my question here is - if you have hosted a party such as above in a small place did it turn out ok? I guess I figure it's only 2 hours so being a little cramped shouldn't be too bad!!!!!!

Yes, I have a smaller house and I always end up with a crowd for birthday parties. As long as you have good eats and fun stuff to do everyone should have a great time! What I always found helps as a nice time filler is to have a station with paper, crayons and stickers or crayons, stickers and paper bags to decorate. (We usually have everyone decorate their own favor bag.) If anyone finishes and activity too soon they seem to gravitate towards the craft table and it keeps them from getting too crazy!

If you need cheap games that don't take up alot of space that kids seem to really love go to the website for minute to win it. It has the instructions, shopping list and even some meant for kids. Most of them are easy enough for kids to try and fun for the ones standing there to watch the person try. We just did the cotton ball/petroleum jelly and bowl required one for our Halloween party at school and we ran out of time and everyone wanted another turn. Most are fun and everyone who likes a challenge but not a daunting one will love it. Also have one of the parents who stays run a station to keep kids moving and not able to start anything on their own. Have them "win" their party favor components with each game they play. It will be okay, because when you are having fun you don't notice the lamp bumping the back of your neck as much.

My son's birthday on the 12th!! Last year we did tons of games in the living room of our house... We played hot potato with a real potato, the over and under game (this is where you have all of the kids in a line and have them race the ball from the front to the back over thier heads and between thier legs and rotate until everyone has gone though the line), balloon pop ( we blew up tons of ballons with a piece of paper in it that said winner they won). This was just to name a few... but you can look up "kids birthday games" online and you will get a ton of ideas.

Oh one thing that we did, was get the play medals from the party store and gave those out for prizes. (they come in a pack of 10) The kids love em and it was a cheap too.

Hope you have a fun!!

My kids loved Hullabaloo at that age! Might be worth the investment. We used it at home for parties and just when a few kids were over. We also took it to bigger family gatherings for Christmas, 4th of July etc. It was always a hit!

For my son's 4th birthday I hosted his party in our 2-bedroom apartment, with about 15 kids plus a handful of moms. The kids had a blast!

It'll be fine for such a short time.
You can always move furniture out towards the wall to make more room
and to create more seating space.
You can always put some furniture in the garage if it's too cramped.
If you have a patio, you can open up that area w/some chairs if people get hot.
You can put large pillows (not the kind for your be) on the floor for extra seating or rent some fold up chairs. Better yet, borrow some from friends the day before.
Put food where it won't cause too much of a traffic jam.
It will be fine. Have fun!
