i need to find a game to play for the third grade class for their christmas party.and maybe a craft also. maybe a gift for the parents from their children.that is simple and hasnt been done in their earlier years as a student. something that will hold their interest but not be so complicated.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

thank you all for all your ideas. i ended up making a silly weather forcaster for the children to give as a gift to their parents on christmas day. unfourtanetly the children were so wound up that this craft was the only thing that we had time to do but we had lots of fun doing it.

Have them staple a hook to a fanned out stack of ribbons that equals the number of family members they have at home, animals count too. To the other end of the ribbon have them cut out and attach an ornament or shape that reminds them of each family member. They can color these shapes or glue on glitter. On the back side they can write what they like about the family member sign and date it.

I've had the kids make an ornament to give to their parents. I take a craft stick (like doctors use) and paint it white. Then I drill a small hole in the top for a hanger--or you could glue yarn or something. Then I have them cut out felt hats and give them googly eyes and sequins for buttons. It's pretty easy and a good keepsake.

I'm the room mom for my 3rd grader also so I will tell you what we are doing. We are doing a puzzle exchange with the kids. I'll read a poem and they have to listen for a word and pass their puzzle. At the end they open the one they have. Also, we are having a snowball fight with tissue paper snowballs. The team with the least amount on their side when times up wins. We are also doing a pass the bow game where there are two teams and each team has to hold the right wrist with their left hand of the person on their right. They then have to work together to get the bows passed down the line. We also have a guessing jar filled with candy and the closest guesser gets to take it home. We have found that the kids aren't enjoying the crafts as much as they like playing games where they can be up and moving around. Hope these ideas help a little.

When worked as a para one of the teachers used CD's and the kids pictures to make a christmas ortament. She used those cd's everyone has gotten in the mail from aol or what ever webservice. I dont'know if they even send those out anymore. Anyways she let the kids glue glitter and cutouts on the backside of the cd then she had them glue there picture on the cd so you could see their face through the hole in the middle. Then glue on a ribbon to hang it with (you could do this before had so the kidos can take it home with them that day)

You could make a Christmas Tree beanbag toss. Take a large sheet of cardboard, cut it into a tree shape, and cut several holes. Use colorful childrens socks as the beanbags: fill partway with beans or rice and tie closed. Then have the kids toss the "ornaments" at the tree. You could also do "Pin the Ornament on the Tree". Kids love to be spun around blindfolded, heh. Or a Holiday Bingo game.
Easy crafts could be Pasta Angel ornaments. Use the bowtie pasta for wings, the straight tube pasta (I forget the name) for bodies, and small wooden beads for the heads. The kids can have fun painting the angels, and they can either be glued before or after. Hot glue works fastest, but there are some good craft glues that would work too. A tough of glitter will make them really shine. Then the kids can take them home for their own trees.
You could also make Gingerbread ornaments. There are recipes for some that don't need to be baked. Check familyfun.go.com or familycrafts.about.com for lots more ideas.
Have fun!!

Maybe get some cheap cardboard picture frames and have them make ornaments out of them or just make a frame but let them design it themselves. As for game maybe pin the nose on Rudolph.
