Party Favors for 3 Year Old Party

I have kids coming ranging from 21 months to 9 years old. I'd rather not buy a bunch of different items for the different age groups. So I was thinking of giving each family a Mickey Mouse container with Mickey cookies (homemade), or going to the dollar store and getting coloring books for the young kids and Word Search books for the older. which would you prefer?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I may just do the cookies and leave them by the front door with a note asking to please take one. That way if they want it they can have it or they can just "forget" to get one on the way out. By leaving them at the door, this could be the start of fazing out the favor. If I don't have too many people take the cookies after my boys party, I can faze out the favor for my daughter's party and start a trend with family and friends of no favors.

Don't give them anything. This is such a bad fad and I can't wait until it's over.

You don't need to give them a present from coming. Getting cake and ice cream is enough.

If you really want to do a favor, I'd go with the cookies.

But, like a few others, I've moved to the 'no favors' camp. I don't think the kids care, and the parents are happy to not take more 'stuff' home.

I stopped doing party favors the year that I forgot to give them out and nobody noticed. But if you really want to do something, I think your idea's are both great.

I would do the coloring/word search books and a box of crayons for each child. As an alternative, just a book to read is a really nice party favor. I would much rather have that than a container and cookies.

Word books and colors .

One year I found art sets for $5 each ( not bad quality) and I gave those out with sketch books.

Just have a piñata or candy, who would expect a goody bag at a 3 year old's party?

I don't do favors. And I don't like when my kids get them. They are normally cheap things that will either get broken or lost within a short period of time and then I have an unhappy kid.

At my daughter's party we had her friends and their siblings, so it was a ton of kids from toddlers to age 7. We gave out bubble wands.

At my granddaughter's third birthday party my daughter bought an assortment of Dollar store toys. Because there was an age range she had the kids pick what they want.

I like both of your ideas too.

Either, both are good ideas so choose the one that will be easiest for you to put together.

I know you've already decided on cookies which I think is a great idea!

Just an idea ... I use party favors to wind down the party - free play. Not only does it get rid of some of the cake energy, but it's a nice way to corral the kids into one area for parent pick up. Hula hoops, Frisbees, balls, bubbles - this year it was those wands with the gymnastics long ribbons. They were a dollar each.

I've had moms read a book to the kids at the end to quieten them down, and hand each child a copy to take home (inexpensive ones). My kids have come home with crazy carpets (sledding) and pool noodles from a swim party. Sometimes it helps the moms if all the kids have the same thing to use at the party.

My kids enjoy it but I don't think you have to give out party favors. It's more about having fun at the party for sure. A balloon for a three year old is quite enough!
