Red Box gift code printed out as a gift certificate (think they even rent games - fun tie-in) and a bag of microwave popcorn.
I'm struggling to come up with ideas for party favors for our son's upcoming birthday. He's turning 10 and having a Game Truck party -- truck loaded with video games will be here at our house. His cake will have a Minecraft theme. It's all about video games at this age; nothing cutesy.
I'd like to avoid giving junky trinkets or candy. Ideally, I'd like to offer something practical (but that's not boring like pencils). I don't want to spend a fortune, so under $10/each is my target. Under $5 is even better! I'm not craftsy, so I'm looking for ideas for things I can order online or buy at a store.
Thanks for any ideas!
I've officially decided not to give out favors. Thanks for the feedback!

What about just some gift cards?
10 is a hard age... they are not into kiddie stuff but yet are not "teens" yet.
My daughter is 10.
They like gift cards....
iTunes
or from some bookstore
or from some game store
You can get gift cards from anywhere
Do you need to do favors? Isn't the party enough?
A book on video game cheats! Scholastic had some great ones for under $10 at our last book fair.
The Game Truck website for my town has water for $5 available.
The Game Truck website for your area has t-shirts for $10.
Found this video game controller chocolate mold. Cool!

Get it, buy some chocolate melts at Michaels or AC Moore and in 20 mins you have party favors. Just wrap them in some saran wrap.
I agree with Lillym that you don't really need favors, but if you really want to have favors, my suggestion is to have $5 gift cards to somewhere near you, e.g. Jamba Juice, Baskin Robbins. I would say Game Stop, given the theme, but I don't think you can get much for $5!
I vote no favors, but if you can't resist, then $5 gift cards or I like the red box idea the best
No favors are needed, the party your describe is more then enough.
We went to a party a while back that gave $5.00 Half Priced Books gift cards. That was neat! My niece got a $5.00 Starbucks gift card she was really excited about, but I don't know if 10 years is too young.
Honestly, though...I'd skip it at 10.
How about virtual party favors? :) Are Ugly Dolls passe for this age?
for my daughers party favors, we did stationary--had mini pad paper, mini color book, colors, stickers, mini tape--came in a pack. (We had boys and girls, so I got smilie faces for them both) The bag is my daughters favorite color--pink.
That's just a thought and it seemed to work. Oh, and for thank you for coming cards, we had taken pictures with her guests and we are going to print a picture with each child with our daughter and thank them for coming.
I have seen posts like this time and time again and I always have to ask,"Why are people so obsessed with giving gifts to guests when it's a birthday party?" I do not intend for this to seem harsh towards you in any way. I just don't understand this idea of giving gifts to guests. You are inviting them to a party, to your home, feeding them cake, ice cream, providing something to drink, and perhaps little appetizers or snacks, they bring your child a gift and in return they get a gift too. I never understood this and never have done this. A thank you card should be sufficient. This is how I was raised, maybe this is a generational thing but please, save your money and the hassle, don't give favors. A simple thank you for coming to so-and-so's party should be all that needs to be given. Good luck with the party. : )
I agree, no gift needed..
$5 gift card to a local Ice cream place.
Glow sticks or cool Glow items..
Have them make mini minecraft swords during the party and then they can take them home. http://www.cutoutandkeep.net/projects/perler-bead-minecra...
I grew up with,
Its s.o birhtday you buy them a gift.
You don't need to give some one for attending, his birthday party,
should be enough to 1be envited,2 cake, 3 food, 4,games.
But if you do give: usually
was trinkets and candy: or this was even placed in pinata..
-- Ideas: glow in the dark party..
where the kids get to draw on their white t-shirts
and you have blue lights and other so they glow in the dark?
:)
( just make sure they bring their own and you got an ok from parent, or you can provide the plane white t-shirts.
We usually just give each guest a full size candy bar. I know you said no candy, but for my kids this is really the only time they get a full size candy bar to themselves, so it is a huge treat.
