Parting Gift to Preschool Teachers?

Dear all,

My 2.5 year old has been going to a very nice, fun but pretty expensive preschool since past 3 months. However, we will be changing him to a closer preschool because the current commute is becoming unmanageable.
His current lead teacher has been incredibly awesome with my son right from the beginning. He is close to the assistant teacher as well. 1 of the other teachers is also quite nice. I want to gift them with something nice and yet affordable, especially the lead teacher, as even though we have been associated with them for such a short period, they have been incredibly nice and caring to my son and I can already see him blossom!

I am thinking of this:
For the lead teacher: 20$ gift card + photo frame with her and my son's photo together.
For the assistant teacher: 10$ gift card + a small item
For the director: 10$ gift card + a couple of pre-K books.
For other teachers: cookie boxes.

What do you all think about this? Would the teachers/director be embarrassed with the gift cards? Are these an appropriate amount? Too much? Too less? Is this a good distribution? Do you also gift the other teachers who are with your kid only partly? I am confused since this is the first time I am gifting something to the teachers whom I may never even see again later. But I still wanted to thank them for taking excellent care of my son. Any ideas? Suggestions welcome.

Thanks everyone!

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone! Today is his last day and just met the teacher. As much I wish, I could not find the correct gift cards with the right amount in such a short period. But someone said the right thing - its the sentiment that matters. So I gave the lead teacher a photo frame with her and my child's photo and a greeting card with a nice poem in it, and 3 statements from my son which showed her importance. I hope she likes it. I also gave a couple of preK books and a craft work, a cookie box and a general greeting card for the rest of them. I had time just for this! Hope they get my sentiment! :) Thanks for all your awesome suggestions too!

Honestly, I don't think that you need to do gifts at all. I can understand your admiration for these ladies, but your son has only been going there for 3 months. That is not a long period of time. I would suggest that you have your son make each of the teachers a card or draw them a picture etc. That is a more than adequate gift considering the length of time he has been with them. If you feel more is in order consider having pizza delivered for that group of teachers or the class for lunch on his last day. I was a preschool teacher for many years and the handmade touches mean the most. If you don't want to order them lunch, you and your son can make them brownies or cookies. The gesture will be appreciated.

My mom taught preschool for decades, and her most cherished gifts from 'her kids' were the things they made themselves. She's kept each and every knick knack, handprint, picture, button, EVERYTHING! Maybe get a few small flower pots and use fingerpaint to put your sons handprint on there. Glue some pretty stones on there and let your son paint the rest himself, glaze it, and give it. They would LOVE that! I bet it would cost about $25-$30 TOTAL to do one of those for each of the people you mentioned :)

I think the amount of the gift cards are appropriate but I wanted to share this idea with that I did with another poster at Christmas.

I think a gift certificate for a spa pedicure or manicure would be great, in CA they go for $13-$18 with a cute pair of soft snuggly sock or gloves... you could find for them for a few dollars. You might be able to find a cute poem online to attach...let me see if i can find something...

Your hands have helped to pave the way.
They’ve given love and care each day.
No matter the tasks they have to do,
They’re tender, caring, strong like you.
They’ve healed, lifted, hugged and touched,
And in return you’re loved so much.

You can even package up a nice hand cream with this attached and get away less expensive.

Why not donate books to the school with a nice note of appreciation

What you have in mind sounds great!

I am on a tight budget but wanted to get my daughters preschool teachers last year something special as they were really great. I got them each a $10 gift card to barnes and Noble as I knew they both liked to read and/or could spend the money on a book for the class if they wanted. Anyway the best part they liked about the gift was I designed a card with my daughters picture from her first day of school on it. Next to it I wrote from the mouth of my daughter 3 things she liked about each of them. I wrote word for word what she said. Even though one of them was " liked when you gave me candy for Valentine's day" (This was in June) Then on the inside of the note I wrote them each a heartfelt thank you from myself.

One of the teachers wrote a thank you note and responded with it was the best end of school year gift she had ever received in the 10+ years she had been doing it.

I'm not sure if you're into crafts and what not, but I gave one of these to a teacher and she just loved it and displayed it in her classroom. It's relatively inexpensive, but definitely thoughtful:

I think your ideas are ALL great...and extremely generous! I agree that this is VERY nice of you to do especially since your child has only attended this school for 3 months. Gift cards are great...because they can choose what they want. I've read blogs like this for forever and it always seems like teachers love gift cards!!! Something small and personalized like a card that you & your son make together would be cute as well... I like the little "words" that someone provided on one of the comments...excellent!

Why not a gift basket for all of them to share (assorted baked goods, maybe some office supplies, coffee and/or hot chocolate) or bring them all lunch. Give a group card to all involved.

Then, also give the lead teacher the framed photo....maybe a frame your son can decorate?
