Hi, I recently enrolled my son in a childcare center and am curious about what the norm is for giving gifts to child care teachers. I have been quite happy with the care that my son is getting and would like the two teachers who take care of him to know how much I appreciate their work. Any advice you can provide would be great. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Involving your kids in some kind of craft or card is great. It teaches them to show appreciation to others. Adding something to it, such as a gift card, makes it more usefull. If time is to pressed for the craft, you could include your child by letting them pick. Bath & Body works is a great place for this because you almost can't go wrong.

I have found that smaller gifts, that you can give more often, are really better. It keeps them from feeling guilty, like they can't accept the gift. It also praises them for the great job they do with you child, more often.

Gift card, gift card, gift card! It dosen't matter if it is $5 or $100. $5 may not seem like much but it will buy a great cup of coffee in the morning that a teacher might skip on otherwise!

I have given gift cards - restaurants, Starbucks, iTunes (she is a runner) etc. I also think that crafts from kids, pictures in cute picture frames, etc. I think they appreciate EVERYTHING! I know for teacher appreciation week last year I did a big gift card ($100) to a restaurant. If you can find out where she gets manis/pedis that would be great also!

When I used to work at daycare my kids/parents used to give me candy jars decorated by the kids. I always liked the cute little crafts that they would make me!

There is definitely nothing wrong with giving gifts to childcare teachers, especially for a job well done with your most precious possession. Im sure they would really appreciate the thoughtfulness. I usually give gifts around the holidays, Teacher Appreciation Day, Christmas, etc, but anytime of the year is fine. Great smelling candles always seem to go over well, as does Bath and Body Works, Gift Certificates, etc.

I have found the most appreciated and welcome gifts to be gift cards!! Starbucks, Target, or find out what their favorite restaurant is...also a "movie basket" is fun- all you need is a few bags of microwave popcorn, a gift card to Blockbuster, a big box of "movie candy" put all in a popcorn container from Party City and you have a really nice and fun gift. You could substitute a new DVD for the gift card if you wanted to. Candles are nice, but I know a lot of teachers, and they get A LOT of candles!!!! Anything is always appreciated when you are saying thank you :) Good luck!

Gifts to your child care teachers are a great way of letting them know you appreciate them. Often a card of appreciation will do, but a gift card is great too. Teachers usually wash their hands a LOT, so maybe a gift card or basket from bath and body works would be a great idea.

How wonderful to find preschool teachers that you appreciate AND for letting them know. It's not an easy job, but it can be VERY rewarding. :-)
