I had it after my daughter was born. I spent 7 months going back and forth to the hospital, my longest stretch at home was about 10 days. I didn't eat any food at all for the full 7 months, I was fed intravenously, even at home. Today, 8 years later, I am perfectly healthy and have no lasting effects, except I no longer drink ANY alcohol. The doctors told me that even 1/2 glass a wine could send me back to the hospital. Write me if you want more support.

try KP.org, it is an inflammation or infection of the pancreas. Can be caused by virus, bacteria, drugs or alcohol.

Well a person can get gallstone pancreatitis from and removing the gallbladder should fix that, but too much booze can be another cause...
And that means no more booze ever....
This problem can leave you in the hospital for many weeks,
not only for pain control but because you can't eat.
Get good medical care with this one!

Pancreatitis is VERY serious! My Grandma died from it and my mother made it to the hospital just in time. She spent a couple of weeks in the hospital. It's been about 7 years now and she is perfectly healthy. They removed her gal bladder. My grandma waited too long and was in pain for several days and was planning on going to the doctor "tomorrow", she died the night before. She was 70 and extremely healthy other than that. From what I understand, it runs in the family and if you are over 40, you have a greater chance of getting it. If you suspect you have it, I would go to an urgent care or the ER just to be safe.

My mother had pancreatitis back in the 70's. It was not detected early and as a result she went into a diabetic coma. Most of her pancreas had to be removed, and as a result she became a diabetic.

You may want to check out www.webmd.com. This website usually provides a good overview of medical conditions.

I have an 8 yr old niece with cystic firbosis (deadly lung disease). This past X -mas she came down with pancreatitis. We all assumed it was a bug at first, lots of vomiting, fever and pain. She went to Childrens hospital where they admitted her after realizing she had pancreatitis. She was there for 2 weeks and the doctors had to keep her on morphine for the pain! It was very hard on her and my sister learned that now that she's had it once, she's very prone to getting it again. No one in my family had ever heard of this, but she's doing better right now, however with CF you never know what to expect and one minute she's doing great, the next very sick. PM me if you need to talk.

I worked with someone who's husband had an inflamed pancreas. He was in the hospital for 3 months, but he got better and was fine. It can be very serious and life threatening, but you can recover from it.
