Painting Refrigerator with Chalk Board Paint

Have any of you painted your refrigerator with chalk board paint?

Even though we have 3 chalk boards in the bedrooms and a dry erase "board" painted on the wall ,our fridge keeps being the place for the stinkers to draw. Now there is marker stains all over it that no matter what cleaners or how much elbow grease I put into it, I can't remove the stains. Plus all the papers are held up on it by maginets. I thought maybe instead of keep fighting with them to stop drawing on it, I would work with them and paint the fridge ( and not buy anymore markers). But I don't know how well the paint would attach to it and with all the daily washing it down how long it would last.

So if you have done it... did it turn out ok? Does it hold up to the cleanings with out wearing off quickly?

I agree Patty K :) We have nipped it some... just seems like once a month or so we walk in and find thier "master piece". Its starting to rust in spots and since a new one isn't in our budget and its works fine just starting to show the age with the rust, we were going to paint it anyways. I just thought this way would be handy for the notes and keeping them entertained and one less battle.

I would not do it. This will only encourage them to keep drawing on things.
I would concentrate on making them understand that there are only certain
places to draw and the frig is not one. There need to be some rules regarding this. I know that is not what you asked, but just my thoughts.

Yeah, I wouldn't do it. Kids need to learn that there is a place for everything and that we only color at the table. My little one is 3 and knows very well that we only color on paper and only at the table. Does she sneak away with a marker every so often? Yes. But then she knows that she has consequences. I keep chalk and the chalkboard on the back patio and markers and crayons on top of the fridge and she has to ask for them to be used.

I wouldn't do it, the kids needs to learn where it is okay to draw (paper and chalkboards only.) Drawing on the fridge is like drawing on the walls, not okay!

I think it's a great idea! Sounds like fun! Unfortunately, I have no experience with using that paint or washing it. It's cheap enough paint that if you have to do it again in 6 months because it didn't hold up with washings you won't be breaking the bank.

I think it sounds like a great idea for leaving messages or writing notes to each other. Very creative idea. I understand what the others are saying though, BUT as long as it's controlled (you have the chalk and supervise. I'm not sure how old your kids are). Make sure there are rules about doing it ONLY on the chalk board and not anywhere else. I don't see any problem with it. Have fun!

Ha! We did it yesterday! It looks fantastic! Use a metallic or magnetic primer, then go for it! A roller works better than a brush. We haven't drawn on it yet, because we want it to set properly, and we have eradicated magnets to reduce any chipping. I love how it turned out, and the boys are excited. I'm going to put a cork board up somewhere else for the children to display their artwork etc.

I wouldn't do it.... They need to learn they can't draw on whatever surface they want to.

Markers were kept under MY control... not to be used whenever they wanted.
