i cant say if its normal, but i remember the same feeling after having my kids. tampons havent been comfortable since after having dd1. and i just had #3, so just wanted to let you know ive been there; so maybe it is normal.
I had a baby 4 months ago. I am still breastfeeding but just started my period a few days ago. I decided to try using a tampon even though it's been awhile. When I went to remove it I felt the worst pain ever (besides childbirth). Is this normal to still be that sore? Sorry this is such a personal issue. I just wasn't sure if anyone else has experienced this or not.

You should go see your doctor. While breastfeeding, it was very painful for me too. It turns out that breastfeeding decreases your hormone levels to something similar to menopause. It causes thinning which makes the area very sensitive. I am not a doctor and cannot explain it very well. But this might be your problem. Or something else. But I would advise seeing your doctor.
I experienced this myself. It was awful!
While breastfeeding (and so soon after birth) many women do not produce enough lubrication/discharge inside their vagina, so it is really dry. When you stick the tampon in, there is nothing to protect the delicate tissue from the cotton, and it ends up "sticking" to the tampon, so when you try to pull it out, it feels like you are ripping something outta there!
If you do not want to use a pad, put some KY jelly on the tampon b/f inserting, and try using a tampon that is shorter as opposed to longer. Use regular instead of super or super max. This really helped me. Also, once your body starts getting back to normal it should correct itself.
You may want to consult you OBGYN to make sure it is nothing that needs to be looked at.
Hello-
I would for sure call your doctor right away. Do you have some sort of number you can call after hours? I know with my office they gave me a magnet with the phone number on it. Depending on which hospital you went to have your baby. I would make sure to give them a call asap. I would look up the number in the phone book or if they gave you information for numbers to call before you had your baby. Each hospital should have resources available to help you. You may not be the only person with this problem. There should be a nurse on duty to help answer any questions you may have. You never know they may even want to see you. Who knows? Just stay calm and everything will be alright. I hope this helps. Good luck and take care!

Hi S.!
I think any pain that concerns you should be checked with your Dr to be safe. I know that right after you have a child, they want you to use pads versus tampons, but they didn't say anything to you about that did they? I'd definitely call a medical hotline or your Dr. Do you have something like "Ask a nurse", where you can call and get medical advice from a nurse 24/7?
I know after having all 3 of my children I have not been able to use tampons at all they are just to painful. could just have something to do with your body changing after having children.
When you breastfeed you produce larger amounts of progesterone. This extra hormone thins your tissue and can make it harder for a tear internally or externally to heal in the vaginal area. I would have your Dr examine you and if he can find an open sore he can perscribe estrogen cream to rub on the tear and help heal it. This happened to me after one of my 6 pregnancies. The Dr gave me the cream and it was healed in a matter of days! Good luck. Bummer that your period returned already. One of the many benefits of breastfeeding, for me, is so period for a year and a half! :)
