I have a bump off of my nipple that looks like a big red bump. Its a quarter of my nipple size wise. It hurts just to be touched in any way. My whole breast also hurts. I dont have any lumps or red spots on my breast at all. What could this be?
It hurts so bad to nurse my baby. i'm gonna call my doctor tomorrow, but if anyone knows of how i can get relief right now. Please help.
I have tried a hot rag on it. It also appears to have an opening i sqeezed some hard white stuff out, maybe dried up milk? I was thinking its a plugged milk duct?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I put my nipple under hot water in the sink then nursed my little guy, making sure that the lump was getting sucked on good. It made me cry it was so painful. I pulled it out every couple of minutes to check it. A lot more white stuff came out. I pulled it out about 5 times. It started out thick white, then turned to softer yellow, then to bloody clear fluid. I got about the size of a pea out of the white stuff. It feels so much better, but it is not producing milk just the clear bloody fluid. Seems kind of like a pimple. Does this sound normal? It was probably caused by pumping so much because my lil guy was in NICU for 2 weeks.
UCK! My baby just spit up a thick white stuff. He never spits up. I hope its not from my boob.

That happens to me whenever I get a plugged duct during the summer. I drink a lot of water, put moist heat on it (soak in the tub), and I nurse baby a lot. It clears up pretty quickly when I do these things and it's gone completely after a day. Good luck!!

PS. If the skin is broken, use lanolin on it, also.

If the bump is off to one side of the nipple, your baby may have a poor latch that is rubbing that spot in a bad way.

Mastitis and yeast infections can both cause breast pain.

I'd go directly to a lactation consultant. A doctor may or may not be able to help. Also call your local chapter of La Leche League. They usually have an on-call volunteer who's available 24/7. Whoever you talk to, keep asking for help until you get help that works. Nursing shouldn't hurt.

On the plus side, I've had nursing issues that caused pain in the 8-9 range on the pain scale. Properly treated, they resolved in 24-36 hours. Good luck!

It sounds to me like it might be a clogged duct...

Nurse frequently, and while you nurse try to "massage" your breasts in circles (like if you were looking for lumps in a breast exam)... I had a few times that I got temporarily clogged ducts and my breast would be so tender and painful and the suddenly, usually during nursing... i would feel a "click" and the milk would release. massage all the way up to your armpit, down to underneath your breast... your breast tissue can actually cover a lot more area than you would think...

If it hurts too bad to nurse, or you feel sick or feverish... go to the doctor in case you are developing mastatis!

if the baby is not wanting to nurse right now,, try pumping or even hand expressing... until it starts to feel less uncomfortable-

Good Luck!

PS... make sure the baby has a good, wide latch too... and isn't actually nursing on your nipple itself... that can make you really sore!

Wow, it does sound like a pimple (after reading the "What Happened?"). Hopefully it continues to get better.

Oh, so you did have your baby. That must have been tough to have him in the NICU.

Its probably a plugged up duct. That happened to me when I was nursing. Its not a good idea to let your child suck on it though. If there is an infection there you don't want him to ingest it. My advice is to check it out online first and if it continues to bother you go see your doctor. You don't want to remember this as a bad experience when you think about nursing your children.
