Packing Jewelry for Vacation?

I'm packing jewelry (mainly necklaces) for our vacation next week. As I'm laying the things out on the bed, I can see they're already getting tangled. Anyone have any tips for packing jewelry to prevent this from happening in transit?

What can I do next?

I don't wear my real jewlery on vacation. I just posted this question beginning of June when we went to Mexico, asking if anyone else did this. But if you are going to pack necklaces, put only one in a snack size zip baggie. Each one in its own bag. That way they won't tangle. Good luck.

I roll mine like they do at the store in tissue paper, then fold it in half and stuff in a shoe.

Take a piece of paper and fold it in half, wind the necklace around the fold and staple/tape it closed.

That's basically what we did when I worked in a jewlery store that did repairs.

They sell jewelry rolls that consist of a rectangle with straps that snap open and one end. Marshalls and TJMaxx have them, as do department stores. You then stretch the necklaces between 2 straps and roll the whole thing up. I just put each in a snack ziplock and try to keep them stretched out. Then I roll the little ziplocks into a gallon ziplock.

I would not pack anything of value in my bags to be checked. TSA does go through bags.

Personally, I only wear my watch, earrings, wedding band and diamond. None of them ever come off unless I am home and I am in the process of cleaning them. I pay an extra $1000 a year for insurance on these pieces. I don't wear any costume jewelry at all... only my good stuff listed above.

We travel often and I've never had an issue. I do turn my diamond around sometimes so it is not visible, I can't conceal the gold watch and for earrings, someone would have to get them off me first.

Have fun on your vacation!

Depending on the length of your necklaces, you can use a paper towel roll to clip your necklaces to. You can cut the tube to fit the length. Fasten each necklace through the inside and outside of the tube and clasp. You can flatten the tube or put tissue gently inside and then wrap around the outside.
Your necklaces should stay nicely separated and non tangled that way. It works for bracelets too.
I have tiny wrists so I just cut the tube to the right length. Watches can be organized this way as well.

Have a great vacation!

First question is it costume or valuable? You don't say where you are going or how. If it is by plane TSA's are famous for "examining" your checked suitcase and lifting what they like.
I am a very frequent traveler for business reasons. My rule about good jewelry is take only what you will be wearing. My gold bracelet does not leave my arm even in the swimming pool.
In Naples this spring I brought with me a band like one used for a sports injury to cover my watch. In Naples they will rip the gold earring right out of your ear in broad daylight. I was warned and took precautions. The rest of Europe is very safe. I went to Central Asia and wore my jewelry the entire time gold necklaces included without any worry.

I place each necklace (costume only) in a separate jewelry bag wrapped in tissue paper. Then the whole lot goes in a jewelry bag in my carry on.

I travel frequently and have a black vinyl rectangular travel jewelry case about 6"x4". It zips open and lays out flat, has a button down roll for rings, a hoop at each end to string necklaces through then fasten them, a strip with holes to hold pierced earrings, and a zippered pocket on each side to hold bangles, watches, or more earrings, or chunky neclaces. It works great! I have had it for years. I think I got it at JC Pennys so you might check there and they are often in stores around Christmas time. When flying, I always put it in my carry-on. I usually only pack costume jewelry, and my husband bought me an inexpensive wedding band so I can leave my wedding ring at home and not feel bare. If I do wear any of my better jewelry, I wear it while traveling and I use a hotel safe when available. If there isn't one, I really like my little black jewelry case because it is very obscure looking and easy to hide in luggage or a motel room or pack it in my purse if I am taking it with me. I always take off my wedding ring to swim! I have lost three rings as a result of jumping into cold water, fortunately two were not special, but one was my class ring right after I graduated high school.
