Ovulation??? - Colorado Springs,CO

Does anyone experience loose bowels when they're ovulating? I'm newly off the pill; about a month, and my husband and I are trying to get preggo again. Before I got pregnant the first time we tried for a year, did fertility tracking, BBT, everything but my periods were so irregular that I was never positive when I was ovulating. I've already had one period since getting off birth control and was wondering if it's as hard the second time around to get pregnant and if there are little hints my body should give me to let me know when I am ovulating. I've had a little cramping in my abdomen and really loose bowels. But other than that I have no idea what to look for this time around. All advice you can give me would be much appreciated:) Thanks Moms.

What can I do next?

Both those, loose bowels and a little cramping are definitely signs of ovulation. Another one is increased and thicker discharge, more muscus-like. Kindof gross, but true!

Good luck on getting preganant!

J. - I always had a goopy discharge to let me know when I was ovulating. The problem may be the pill. I know many, many women who stopped taking the pill and it took them years to get pregnant. The docs say it can't happen, for some women, their bodies just can't handle the pill and its effects linger much longer.

Hi J.,
There are lots of natural remedies you can use to determine your fertility signs. When I work with women trying to get pregnant, we look at their temperature charts to understand if there are any imbalances with Estrogen or Progesterone. Once you have identified that, you can easily determine which safe and effective herbs you can use to enhance your fertility.
If you really want to be clear I would recommend you set up an appointment at Holistic Pathways. Their number is ###-###-#### and they specialize in women's reproductive health and herbal medicine. Good luck, L.

J.,

I just wanted to recommend a way to detect when you are ovulating. It is called the ClearPlan Easy Fertility Monitor. This monitor is expensive to buy, but I realized it evens out after I spent months buying the ovulation sticks at Wal-Mart. You can find them on Craigslist if you just search for Fertility Monitor. This device actually charts your cycle for you and gives you low fertility, high fertility, and peak fertility days in a very easy to read way. Unlike detecting which line is darker:( It measures additional hormones than just LH to detect when you are getting close to ovulating and when you are actually ovulating. I know a lot of people that have had success with this monitor. Just thought this might help you clear up any confusion about ovulating. Best of luck!

The only way I can tell if I am ovulating is if I use the urine test kits. They aren't too expensive and work great. There are also reusable ones (I know this sounds gross) and they work as well. Good luck!

I strongly recommend "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler too. It will answer this it great detail. I do not know if loose bowels are a sign (I don't think they are) but cervical mucous and ovulatory pain and temperature shifts are all good signs. By charting you'll also know if night sweats or headaches are signs for you. Some of those signs are different for everyone. Definitely ovulation predictor kits are the easiest though it is a good idea to know your own signs anyway. Get the Clear Blue Easy predictor kit from Walmart or Target. The ones with the smiley faces are easier to read. Whether or not it's harder or easier the second or third time around has nothing to do with past experience (fortunately or unfortunately). Good luck.

J.,

I never knew when I was ovulating either. My sister said she felt a slight pain in one of her ovaries when she ovulated. Have you tried getting one of those ovulating kits? I bought one and I was able to find out when I ovulate. My ovulation was 13 days from the start of my period. When I knew that I was able to conceive my first and second child with my husband of 14 years. I'm not sure what the BBT is, is it the basal temperature? If you have a basal thermometer you can do that if not you just have to take your temperature with a regular thermometer. Once you have a slight rise in temp. you are ovulating! I now have 3 children ages 6,4, and 2. Hope all works out and you're able to conceive soon!

The book that talks about your discharge and your temperature is called, Your Fertility Signals. It's very informative.
Also, I have heard that it is a lot easier (for the most part) to get pregnant the second time, after you've gone through so much the first time. But, everyone is different. Good luck!

Have you tried the basal thermometer? Buy one and take your temperature early each morning before eat, drink or get out of bed. The basal thermometer measures temperature in different increments that a regular temperature thermometer. An increase in temperature will indicate that you are ovulating. The termometer may come with information. Otherwise, double check with your local OB on how much the temperature should increase. So that you know what to watch for. It worked for us. Good luck.

I have those symptoms the day before and the day of starting my cycle. Go to the library and check out Taking Charge of Your Fertility. The author gives you external (egg white cervical mucus) and internal (temp shifts) indicators of when you are about to or have ovulated. The kits were frustrating to me. The book is awesome!

Hi J.,

Check out www.herbdoc.com

Dr. Schulze has some excellent herbal products. I am confident that the herbs used are 100% organic and wild harvested! More than I could say for herbal products even from a health food store!! They could help regulate your cycle and help you be in your best health. I've not tried the products for female issues but everything else I've tried I absolutely love!! On the website and in the catalog he talks about helping with fertility issues. It would be the first thing I would try if I were in your shoes. If you have any questions I would be happy to answer them as best I could. Blessing to you!

I'm not sure of any hints your body may be giving you, but I highly recommend getting an ovulation kit. I did the whole temperature chart thing when trying for our son, but gave up and just had fun trying. With my daughter, we did the ovulation kit (there are several and they are inexpensive) and it worked the first time. Also, it sounds like you may need to check your diet. I know if I'm not eating healthy, I experience some of the same symptoms. Oh, and drink lots of water. My husband and I both get cramps if we haven't been drinking enough water. Good luck and have FUN trying for your second little one.

If you google it, there's some pretty reputible sites you can research (I just did, because me too :). One thing I've know to work is using your basal body temperature (google it). I got pregnant the first time by just thinking about it, and we've been trying almost 6 months for the second, so I really think the second might take a little longer. Just be patient and don't get too stressed.
