Ovarian Cyst - East Greenbush,NY

Last Monday during my annual exam (PAP, pevlic exam etc) my doctor felt an ovarian cyst (she thinks about the size of a tangerine). I had problems with cysts in high school and was put on the pill which I believe worked (since I hadn't really had any issues or symptoms) for about 10 years. I came off the pill almost 6 years ago and have since had 2 children. Since my daughter was about 7 months (as breastfeeding slowed down) I have been having long periods (10 days) with shorter cycles (26 days) and migraines (visual and physical auras - numbness in my arm along with headaches). I have an ultrasound scheduled for Wednesday morning so I will have more info then but I have been doing a little research and wondering if anyone had info on any holistic methods to cure/prevent ovarian cysts? We have been trying to conceive #3 for about 4 months - today I am 1 day late with some spotting yesterday so I tried a home pregnancy test but it was negative. I am guessing this could be from the cyst. Any thoughts or input would be appreciated. I am very curious to see where the doctors lead me but would like some background info on holistic approach instead of possibly jumping to surgery or just watching it. Thanks so much!

Hi J. --

I've had numerous ovarian cysts and cysts in my breasts as well. Years ago my OB/GYN put me on 800 IU of a specific natural vitamin E complex, and it was very effective for me.

About a year ago my heart specialist made me stop (concerns over new vit E studies), long story short, my cysts came back with a vengence. OB/GYN had to aspirate the larger cysts and send out the fluid for tests (all fine), then he put me back on vit E - I've had no problems since. :)

Best of health,
S.

J.,

International Cesarean Awareness Network. I found it. You should too. A lot of women will benefit from this knowledge. They are online.

Be careful what you allow your OB to do (and not do). Be informed.

Good luck, and don't assume you're not pregnant!

The following may help you conceive if you suffer from PCOS:
1. Homeopathy
2. Acupuncture
3. Losing weight/ exercise

These are alternative remedies that may take a while to give you results you want. Your gynec may recommend you take Metformin or Clomid, which may be right for you, but might have side effects. Either way, if you are breast feeding, right now may not be a good time to start any medical regiment.

All in all, please do not be stressed as this is very common. Use a fertility monitor to find the days you are ovulating, which should take the guesswork out of when your body is ready to conceive.

Good luck.

Hi J.,
I found your request interesting...bc I alsofound out just recently that I had 2 large cysts on my ovary. I have 2 children, but got pain after my second was born. It was unbearable. I had back pain, side pain, etc. I went on the pill. Recently I spoke to a doc about it, but decided to "try". W/In one month off the pill...preg. It's so early and they're worried about this pregancy, b/c i had lots of bleeding...not b/c of the cyst. I am proof though that you can get pregnant...so don't give up hope. Before trying, i lost 15 pounds to become healthier and drink lots of water...also try not to stress. Good luck to you, but have hope.
=)

Hi J., whenever I respond to any of these post, I generally recommend the same protocol-detox your body. Whenever anything is awry in our bodies, it is because we are toxic. We take our cars to get oil changes to make sure that the engine does not give out and we ask the mechanic about the best oil to put back into the car. However, most people have NEVER detoxed their bodies. Today we are bombarded with atleast 550 chemicals per day just based on our personal care products. When you add mercury and other heavy metals to the mix and EMF's-it's a disaster waiting to happen. I regualted my hormones by detoxing. If you are serious, you should purchase the book, Toxic Relief by Don Colbert. I will attach a link regarding the gist of his book. Please don't buy one of those detox kits-some of them are more harmful than good. Just stick to an organic fruit, vegetabel, lean meat, and whole grain diet for one month and feel the difference. I also recommend getting your vitmain D levels checked to ensure that they are adequate. Low vitamin D levels contributes to hormonal embalances. If your levels are adequate, start taking an omega 3 fatty acid such as Carlson or Nordic naturals. Lastly, I highly recommend a green superfood such as Garden of Life's Perfet Food. This will get you off to a great start.

Try acupuncture! Many people have had tons of success in resolving gyn issues with it. Try to find someone who specializes in gyn issues; there are many different acupuncture styles and each practitioner is is different, so some may be more effective than others at shrinking/eliminating cysts. It also is hugely helpful when people are trying to conceive. Best of luck!
