you can try A&D ointment. I knew a bartender who's hands were always that way. Use the ointment and put gloves over while you sleep. It is a healer and a protector.
Can anyone one recommend a good remedy for dry/itchy winter hands? I never had this problem until I moved to Utah, but his winter my hands are red, dry, itchy, and hurt. I would really appreciate ideas, so far nothing's working.

I live in Montana where it is super dry and cold. All winter long, I get dry, cracked hands, and those nasty "cold cracks" at the corners of my thumbs. I use super glue to close up the "cold cracks", and I use Eucerin cream in the day time and Bag Balm at night. The Bag Balm is super greasy and smells kind of funny, but if you put it on right before bed, your hands will feel brand new in the morning. If you are not a big fan of greasy hands, you can buy cotton gloves to put on after your hands are "lubed up", or just put socks on your hands. Good luck! Dry hands are the worst.
Try pure lanolin. It's very sticky and you may only be able to use it at night before bed, but it really helps heal as well as moisturize. I have the same problem, and although I've found that most lotions help, I usually don't have time to put anything on!
Hey! I use cetephil cream and also my daughters Johnson and Johnson bedtime cream lotion on my hands. Good Luck!
I dont know what you've tried but there is a bunch of options.
Corn Huskers lotion (my grandpa swears by it so I have to reccomend it although I dont use it often)
Cetaphill (sp) I hear many moms swear by this.
Aveno
Stevens
Lubriderm
Gold bond
Bag balm
and if it's still a major problem, my Dr. Prescribed some creams for my sons eczema like elidel cream.

And be sure to wear gloves when doing dishes or cleaning using harsh chemicals.
Good Luck
You may want to try hydrogen cortizone cream. It is what I use and it seems to always work.
You've gotten some good answers already. Hopefully some of them will work. We use vanicream on my daughters hands as well as a topical steroid when the eczema gets really bad. Try to stay away from washing with harsh soaps and hot water and always put cream on right after washing or being outside. A pharmacist could probably give you some good tips as well. Hopefully spring is just around the corner and your hands will start getting better soon.
I LOVE Avon's moisture therapy ... it's really thick and gives a good protective cover. Body butters are pretty good too. If it's eczema you may need to get a prescription. My father in law gets eczema, just on his hands, only in the winter time and he needs to put a medicated creme on it. Good luck!
Hi H., I use a product called Renew from Melaleuca. If you are interested in how to get it, contact me. It will even get rid of ecxema! And it isn't greasy either.

I've dealt with this for 16 years (I live in Utah too). Mine were so bad they would actually crack and bleed. I tried Lubriderm, Eucerin, Aquaphor, and a hundred other lotions, but I finally found Aveeno active naturals Intense Overnight Moisturizing Cream and it is amazing! I noticed a huge difference just hours after I first put it on (last week) and my hands are doing great. It does have a warning not to use it longer than 7 days in a row (not sure why... the active ingredient is Dimethicone in case you want to do some research), but I use it off and on with Cetaphil and my hands feel perfect.
I too have bad hands as I wash them a lot during the day as I'm a home daycare provider. Not to mention the alcohol in the baby wipes dries my hands out. The best thing I found is Mary Kay's Satin Hands treatment. I don't sell it but if you know of anyone who does, I would try it. They can give you a sample to try before you buy.
Hi H. ~ here are a few things I've found that haved helped, as I have the same issue!
I use to LOVE Aveeno medicated/extra dry skin lotion....the different kinds are color coded on the bottle and I remember it being a dark blue. It really helps to heal your hands and keep them soft.
A few years ago a girl that I worked with introduced me to a salt scrub/moisturizer/oil. I couldn't find it anywhere until recently. It is made my BeautiControl and it FANTASTIC. I don't sell, so no worries, I am not trying to get you to buy my product...LOL...however it works wonders. The salt srub takes off the dead dry flaky skin and the moisturizes and oil leave your hands feeling baby smooth. Afterwards I use an advanced healing hand lotion or something or other from them as well. It is by far the BEST thing I have found for my hands. You just wash your hands with and your done! You use it twice a day for the first week and then once every day there after.
How about Zim's Crack Creme? It smells like cloves and isn't too thick.
Try to avoid any lotions that have a scent, and use Dove bar soap to wash your hands if possible. Apply lotion frequently, right after washing if possible.
Put on a thick lotion like Aquafor or Eucerin just before bed...don't forget your feet while your at it :)
I personally like lubridum during the day, I have it everywhere....in the glove box, by the kitchen sick, in the bathroom, by my bed, and at work. Sounds nuts but my hands are nice, and my nails are strong too!
