I have gone through the previous responses all the way up to a year ago and didn't see anyone asking this question. (I might have missed it, forgive me if I did) I developed a clogged mlk duct. It hurts like you know where!!! Anyone have any home remedies to make it unclog????

I am at the point of wanting to wean, but I have noticed that my son is asking for it more right now... maybe a growth spurt... so I feel sort of trapped and have increased my nursing to meet his needs.

For a "simple" clogged duct:
Tylenol + ibuprofen + moist heat + nursing/expressing/pumping it out. Yowza, that hurts, though!!!

Ditto on keeping an eye out for mastitis. That's something that no amount of nursing will fix...but an infection that really needs medicine. I didn't have insurance (or transportation, phone, money, etc...was on my own while my husband was travelling) at the time, and went through 2 weeks of hell, a fever of 105, and lost my milk due to a mastitis infection that could have been cured with 3 days of antibiotics. And the idiot award goes to....

Soy lecithin (sold OTC in the vitamin section of places like Henry's) worked great for me. It makes milk more "slippery," so they don't clog your ducts. Good luck!

The only thing that worked for me was a very warm/hot shower and rub it then either pump or nurse it out. gosh those hurt!If you are ready to wean i found doing it slowly was the best and finding something to substitute with was very helpful. my kids loved milk so they were happy to switch to milk during the day and nursing just before naps and bedtime.

good luck and if you start to feel flu like symptoms-fever, achy, weak call your doctor you could have mastitis and you need antibiotics.

I agree with the precious poster, Kelli. Watch for flu like symptoms. I had mastitis and it is one of the MOST painful things EVER. You will need an antibiotic if you develop it. I even needed a percocet to take the pain away.
