Hey Everyone!
I find myself in a reading kick and just finished "Love Comes Softly" series by Janette Oke. I am usually a sci-fi/fantasy reader and picked up the first book of the series by accident. I absolutely loved it!!! Do you know of any other books or series similar to this? I have never really read any Christian fiction but would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!!!

I am a sci fi fantasy reader as well. I gravitate towards YA though as to avoid too much violence/sex/language.

You probably know about Twilight, The Host and The Hunger Games, but I just heard of one called Paranormalcy by Kiersten White that sounds really good. Also, my friend Clover Autrey has a series, Upon Eagle's Light is the first book and then the second is Chase the Wind, both great.

Anyways, I've never read anything by Janette Oke, but she has several books, perhaps try another one?

if you havent read the women of the otherworld series by kelley armstrong, i recommend it. It's not Christian fiction, but it's werewolves, witches, etc. and manages to not be too horrory or porny and is a good story.

Hi A.! Try books by Tamera Alexander. You won't be disappointed! I also love Lynn Austin.
I don't like Karen Kingsbury's books. Once you have read one.....you've read them all.

Other authors you may like are Colleen Coble, Tamara Leigh, Denise Hunter (one of my absolute favorites) and Francine Rivers.

Good luck!

Karen Kingsbury!!! Start with "Redemption". That's a really good series!

A stand alone by her that was really good was "Like Dandelion Dust." I've read a ton and haven't found one I haven't liked by her yet!

I just finished quite a few books that I loved. Charlaine Harris and her Sookie Stackhouse novels were a must read for me. True Blood is based on these novels.

Left Neglected by Lisa Genova
Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah
A Total Waste of Makeup & Misery Loves Cabernet by Kim Gruenenfelder
Thanks for the Memories by Cecilia Ahern
Heaven is for Real by Todd Burpo
Unforgiveable by Laura griffin
I'd Know You Anywhere by Laura Lippman

Anything by Tess Gerritsen is good and then there is the Twilight series as well that I enjoyed. All of these books were enjoyable and I couldn't put them down. I read the books off of i-books and you can download a preview and read 60 up to 130 pages of a book before you decide to download it. Happy reading.

I would say Karen Kingsbury is one of the best christian contemporary fiction writers out there. I would definitely try her.
Also, I am "reading" (audiobook) a book by Francine Rivers, which is a period piece, so it's more like historical fiction, but amazing writing.
Those are my two votes!

Francine Rivers is the BEST Christian fiction author, in my opinion. (She's also very historically accurate.) I've never found a book by her that wasn't exceptional. Read "Her Mother's Hope" and "Her Daughter's Dream" (2-book series). They're AWESOME!!! I've been reading the 2nd one for the past 2 nights, and I'm on page 489. I literally could not put it down. It sounds long, but it's such a great story that it's over far too quickly.

I also really enjoyed her books "Redemption Child," and "The Scarlet Thread." Her sons of encouragement series, and series about "unsavory" women in the line of Christ were great, too. I went through 9 of them in a very short period of time! The books that got me started with her were in the Mark of the Lion series, which starts with A Voice in the Wind. (They take place in ancient Rome.)

Now I can't wait to finish my book!!! But I have to breastfeed my youngest, and then get my other 3 up so we can go to the grocery store. Maybe later....

Oops, it's not "Redemption Child," it's called, "The Atonement Child."

You'll enjoy the other Janette Oke books too. She has quite a few.
Other authors that I have also enjoyed are:
Lori Wick - any of hers are great
Roxanne Henke - also, any are good
Karen Kingsbury - these tend to be more current times, and story lines that can make you cry. (I don't read them while pregnant, as it is too much emotion for me.)

I had read the Janette Oke books so much that I ended up giving them away some time ago, as I knew them by heart... :) I gave away some others at the same time, and am pulling a blank at the authors names at the moment.

In the sci fi/fantasy genre - have you read the ones by L.E. Modesitt Jr.? I highly recommend those. Start with the Recluse books, I have really enjoyed those. :) (Not the same as the Janette Oke books AT ALL - but still really good!)

(If interested in buying the christian fiction, then www.christianbook.com is a good place. That said, libraries tend to have a good selection too, especially in the large print section. (I don't know why they are large print, but that is where they seem to end up!) )

Thanks for asking this question. You let me have a little vacation in my mind thinking back about some of the really good books I have read. :)

There are tons of excellent Christian Fiction authors. My absolute favorite is Karen Kingsbury. Every one of her books are fantastic (I've read them all!). I also like Terri Blackstock, Tracie Peterson, Debra White Smith, Robin Lee Hatcher, Lori Copeland...too many to list!
Go to Christianbook.com and search their fiction listings for more ideas, but I highly recommend starting with Karen Kingsbury's books...you will love them!

I haven't read any of these suggestions, but I know people who really loved these and I am somewhat familiar with the "Love Comes Softly" series and the same type of people seemed to gravitate to these also:

These is my Words (Turner)--also "pioneer era" series
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (Shaffer)
Charly--Jack Weyland (This is an LDS novel)
Good luck! My reading list is way too long and maybe one day I'll get everything read I'd like to...
