My 12 year old needs braces and I'm just curious to find out the price range. I've been quoted 5,000 to 6,000.
Do you think that's a fair price ?00.

is that with or without insurance? if you have dental insurance then they may be able to cover some but you would have to talk to your insurance company but if not then that is about right

I used to work for an orthodontist and yep that sounds about right to me. The thing to watch out for is the doctors that claim they can do it for so much cheaper or claim that they will just charge you as they go. The problem with that is then you get charged for every little thing. And if your kid ends up in braces for longer than was thought then the cost will go up. But if the orthodontist quotes you at 5 to 6,000 for the whole thing then thats good. So then if you kids ends up needing more xrays, more elastic wear, has lots of brackets pop off and need replaced it won't cost you anything extra. So I know it cost a lot but it's so worth it!

I am pretty sure that is about what we pay. The insurance put 1500. We put a deposit and then pay 100 a month per kid (for 30 months). We are on our third kid now....darn braces!

Wow that's expensive! I'm guessing it could be based on where you live, but here you're looking at $2K for 24 months.

our insurance chipped in 1500 and we paid 3000 or 3500 (i try to block out those huge awful numbers, so i'm not sure which amount!). he has to wear them for two years and have surgery. I'm not sure the surgery is included in that. We paid for our share by using a credit card called Care Credit. it's thru GE Bank and if you pay the balance off within a certain amount of time you dont have to pay interest. I love this card! we've had to use it at the vet, dentist, etc., when we didnt have the cash to pay upfront.

I know that when we looked we went for 2 different consultations with different doctors. I got estimates for roughly the same treatment plan that were almost $1000 different. The lower cost that we went with was roughly 4000. I'd get at least a couple of consultations if you haven't already. Most will do those for free.

So Far only my youngest SS has needed braces...I do not remember the final price, I only remember that our portion (64%) was (Mom had to pay too) roughly $2800...

So I say yep, that's pretty close but you should always get at least 2 different estimates....unless you absolutely love and trust your orthodontist.

OUrs were $3800. Insurance paid $1500, we paid the rest.
