You absolutley do not have to give favors with everything else you're putting into the party! A balloon is fine especially since you're giving them the kites!
I'm having a kite birthday party for my 3yo. We are expecting about 25 kids - which includes siblings. I prefer not to get the traditional goodie bags - and especially with Halloween around the corner, I wanted to keep candy to a minimum. My husband and I are making kites that each child can decorate and run around with during the party. I'm wondering if a balloon with a kite drawn on it is enough of a party favor to go with the kite that each child is going to get. Is that enough? Should I attach a lollipop at the end of the balloon? How do you feel about party favors?

I'm not sure what the protocol is, but I can tell you that my son looks forward to getting the favor at the end of the party to take home. He just loves opening it in the car to see what he got.
Personally I think the kite is enough- and a very cool idea by the way! If you really wanted to do something in addition, you could attach a lollipop or even healthier... a little bundle of pencils.
Are these kite kits that you purchased? My son't birthday is in the late spring and I really love this idea.

Honestly, I think the Kite making is a good enough party favor. They are decorating it, so it will be thier own. The kite and balloon is a great idea. If you really want to give them something they can open, maybe you can give a small goodie bag with a little paint set, or coloring book, something that they can use. Ususally when I get the usual goodie bags at parties I either hide the candy so my daughter doesint start gobbling it up or she ends up loosing the little trinkets in a day or two, so I would be really hhappy with the kite alone! She can use it on another sunndyday. Good luck with what you choose!
We did a noah's ark workshop this year four my daughter's party (like build a bear). So that was their favor. I did feel like I needed to hand something out as they were leaving so I made some of those chocolate lollipops. You know the ones where you melt the chocolate and pour into the different molds. Inexpensive to do and the kids loved picking their own.
