Open-minded Pediatrician in Westchase Area?

I am looking for a pediatrician for my 15-month old who is a little more open-minded about parenting methods. For one, I would like to avoid getting lectured about forcing my child to "cry it out" as the only way to get them to sleep. I am also a vegetarian, and would like to find a doctor who doesn't see anything wrong with that. I have only been to one doctor here and he rubbed me the wrong way in these matters. I am willing to travel! Thanks everyone.

What can I do next?

My 1 year old son and I go to Dr. Saxena in Lutz. She is accepting new patients in her integrative practice only, but I think she is exactly what you are looking for. She and her children are vegetarian, and I know she is familiar with Dr. Sears' parenting advice. I actually found her on Dr. Sears' vaccine website. Her website is www.mylivingwellness.com. We've been to her a couple of times, and I love her. Hope you find a doctor that you love too!

Hello L.,

I also am vegetarian and did not do the "crying it out" method. I believe that is in part why my 2 1/2 year old son is well adjusted and smiles most of the time.

The pediatrician that I go to is Dr Hauser, she is with Pediatric Health Care Alliance. She respects me as the parent and seems to understand that she is there to help me, not to push whatever her personal opinions on raising children. She also respects the fact that I am vegetarian and answers my concerns about how that may affect my sons nutritional needs. Her # is ###-###-####, she is just off of Bearss and Dale Mabry Hwy. Good luck!

My Pediatricians are a great group. Pediatric Healthcare Alliance - they have offices in Carrolwood, Brandon and South Tampa - I belong to the South Tampa office and each doctor is very open minded. My little girls love them all. ###-###-####. I have not let my little ones cry it out and they turned out just fine. No need for that unless that is what you want to do. Good luck! :-)

Try Doctor Adler. He is by far one of the best in town. He was mine was I was young, and have brought my daughter to him when her primary peditrician rubs me wrong. I would go there all the time, except I am so far from the westchase area.

I'm not sure why a pediatrician would advise on parenting issues such as "crying it out." I never asked mine for advice on such matters. Our old pediatrician (before we moved here) always asked if my son was eating vegetables (hey, ketchup counts!) so I can't imagine anyone would have a problem with a vegetarian lifestyle. Perhaps you are sharing too much and relying on your pediatrician for more lifestyle issues than he/she is really qualified to advise you on.
